2009 Writing Retreat
Twenty NWP Teacher Consultants (TCs) from throughout Missouri met for a weekend of reflection, writing, and conversing at Prairie Lands Writing Project's Sixth Annual Writing Retreat, June 12 - 14, 2009, at Conception Abbey, Conception, MO. As in prior years, PLWP TC Rebecca Dierking (now a doctoral student at the University of Missouri-Columbia) facilitated this year's retreat, and Britton Gildersleeve, OSU Writing Project Director, returned as retreat editor. PLWP Technology Liaison Mary Lee Meyer served as local host and photographer. Aside from gathering for meals and checking in with peer groups and Gildersleeve for critiques, the retreat agenda included time to write, to reflect, and to retreat.
Half of this year's participants signed up for and received one hour of graduate credit (ENG/EDU 501 Topics in Teaching Writing) by participating in writing groups, sessions with Gildersleeve, and submitting their revised writings to Dierking within a week of the retreat. This year's cost to participans: $75 for one graduate credit.
Save the date: PLWP's 7th Annual Writing Retreat is already set to be at Conception Abbey, June 11-13, 2009.
