ENG 500 Literature for Adolescents

Course Description: ENG 500 is an
introduction to the genre of literature for young adult ("YA" or
"Adolescent" literature) that appeals to YA from middle school to high
school and beyond. In this course participants will:
- Discuss the specific nature of YA
literature as a genre different from both "adult" and children's
literature by both degree and kind;
- Consider trends in publishing;
- Discover the issues behind censorship;
- Learn about the history of literature for
young adults;
- Complete a research project.
Prerequisite:
BS or BA degree. This course counts as an elective toward the PLWP
Graduate Certificate in the Teaching of Writing and in the MAS in
Assessment: Writing Option. |
