Spring 2008 Graduates

Many of our MWSU/STC members graduated this spring. We would like to congratulate all of them on their achievement and will post their names as soon as they are officially released.

STC Members Present Posters at Springfield Conference

Students from Dr. Kaye Adkins' ETC 421 Worlds of Techincal Communication class presented their posters at the regional Society for Technical Communication conference in Springfield, Missouri in April. Some of the posters from ETC 421 can be viewed in Murphy Hall 119.

Dr. Kaye Adkins & Dr. Robert Bergland Win Jesse Lee Myers Teaching Award

Dr. Kaye Adkins and Dr. Robert Bergland were awarded the Jesse Lee Myers Excellence in Teaching Award on April 29, 2008. The Jesse Lee Myers award is presented to faculty who exhibit "extraordinary teaching ability and outstanding contribution in either scholarly and professional activities or institutional and community service."

Dr. Adkins has worked to integrate electronic research and better research models into coursework, as well as participating in the Critical Thinking Task Force to integrate critical thinking in coursework campus wide. In 2007, Dr. Bergland gave ten presentations at conferences, two of which were with students. In addition, he has worked on several research projects with students, and students have also won a record-breaking 21 awards from the Missouri College Media Association.

Dr. Cynthia Jeney Wins Mehl Award

In a press release from May 29, 2007, Dr. Cynthia Jeney received the Dr. James V. Mehl award for her "unusually significant and meritorious achievement in professional scholarship." In addition to receiving this award last year, Dr. Jeney also published her textbook Writing for the Web: A Practical Guide, had an essay on "intellectual and pedagogical issues in teaching college writing" published in a Hampton Press collection, and presented two other papers at conferences. She was also invited to join the editorial board of the online publication Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology and Pedagogy.
