5/11/06 A Tale of 2 Trophies
In honor of our 25th anniversary Week, we thought it would be fitting to go and retrieve a few mementos to display at our banquet Friday. Several of our brothers made a one day trip out to Beta Mu (Central Methodist) to retrieve three things: the traveling Province 19 trophy, the traveling National trophy (The Percy), and our chapter mug. While out at Beta Mu, the brothers got a tour of their chapters clock tower room, with features composites from years pasts, awards the Beta Mu chapter has been awarded, as well as many other things that show Beta Mu's history as a chapter. Afterwards, the brothers joined Todd Oberlin and several other brothers for dinner.

"To all of us humans the future is a closed book, except that we know it as a continuation of the present, just as the present flows out of the past. We, therefore, can speak of the Sinfonia of the future only in terms of what has been."

5/10/06 Nu Gamma @ the K
Day 4 of our 25th Anniversary Celebration Week, and one of the best days of brotherhood we've had in a long time. The brothers of Nu Gamma cashed in on some Royal's tickets and went down to KC to watch them play the Cleveland Indians. During the 3rd Inning, on the main scoreboard, groups that are present at the K that day are displayed, and Nu Gamma was among the many names listed on the screen (it was a big day for Elementary Schools too, for there were many kids present at the game). The Royal's won the game with a score of 10-8. They also had 12 hits during the game, which means all fans get a dozen doughnuts for free from Krispie Kreme (and we had 20 tickets!). The lines were horrible at the doughnut shop after the game, so we proceeded to our next destination: dinner with Mama Brown (Brother Mitchell's mom in Raytown). There, the brothers sat down for a wonderful and delicious dinner of pork ribs, spaghetti, beans, and Peach Cobbler. Throughout the evening, Mama Brown entertained us with her actions and words and there wasn't a single moment where a brother was not laughing. Later that evening, the brothers traveled back up to Brother Croskell's farm for our White Night ceremonies for our one pledge. It was a late night, but everyone agreed that it was one of the fun days we've had as a chapter.

5/09/06 Happy Chapter Day!
Day 3 of our 25th Anniversary Celebration Week, and Happy Chapter Day! Today marks our 25th year as a chapter here at Missouri Western State University. The celebration started with a Mill's Music Mission for the elderly at Saxton Care Center, just off of Riverside. The chapter sang many songs from the fraternity songbook, and several brothers performed instrumental pieces as well. Afterwards, we hosted a BBQ at Brother Kiner's place. Alumni, and past president of Nu Gamma, Dan Riggs made an appearance at this event where he brought some of his mementos from his years as a Sinfonian, including an original pledge paddle from the early days of our chapter as well as his own. He also shared some stories from his days as president of Nu Gamma and how he helped our chapter get back into SGA after some major setback years.

5/08/06 Gentleman's Game of Poker
Day 2 of our 25th Anniversary Celebration Week. What better way to continue the week than to get the brothers together and playing some cards (no gambling). Two games of poker went on for several hours. Besides our collegiate members, Jason Kikoler and Jeff Siasoco, two past alumni of our chapter, also made an appearance.

5/07/06 Final Meeting of the Year
Tonight was the kickoff of our 25th Anniversary Celebration Week and our final business meeting of the semester. There wasn't much business that needed to be discussed, other than the days ahead with the rest of the 25th Anniversary celebration. However, we did hold a ceremony to move two of our graduating seniors to Alumni status. Christopher Muehlich, our former Vice President, and Cole Aaron Kiner, our former Treasurer, are now officially alumni of our chapter. Chris has done an outstanding job with there services for the fraternity over the years and will both be greatly missed. Cole too has done an outstanding job as Treasurer, getting our books all organized and accurate. He recently was elected as our new Alumni Secretary, and since he lives in St. Joseph, he plans to continue being involved with our chapter for at least another year.

4/21/06 Brotherhood Camping Trip
To get way from the busy days of school and work, the brothers planned a weekend of relaxation and fun. Six brothers and our one pledge brother drove down to Platte city where they camped out at Brother Croskell's uncle's farm. All seven guys enjoyed a weekend of relaxing, cooking hotdogs / eating at Waffle House, playing catch, doing some fishing at Weston Bend State Park, lighting a 30 foot bonfire, and catching up on much needed sleep. It would have been nice if other brothers could have made it out, but it was still fun just the same. Those who went on this trip were: Andrew Murphy, Andy Guerrero, Keith Langabee, Ben Croskell, Jason Hern, Brent Stevens, and Dustin Potter, our pledge.

4/19/06 Composer's Concert
Wednesday, the Nu Gamma chapter hosted a composer's concert. Anyone in the music department that has composed any type of musical piece was more than welcome to sign up and play at this concert. A total of seven people signed up and played personally written pieces, including a clarinet duet and several percussion ensembles. This was an open concert for anyone to come and watch and the turnout was very good.

4/18/06 Special Olympics Softball
The Missouri Highway Patrol hosted its annual Softball tournament to raise money for the Special Olympics. This year, the Greek Community on campus was invited to participate in the tournament. Sororities and fraternities were paired up with each other to make the games fair for everyone. Several brothers paired up with several girls from Alpha Gamma Delta and participated in the tournament. Those brothers were: Chris Brough, Tim Dunsford, Andy Guerrero, Cole Kiner, Keith Langabee, Andrew Murphy, and Brent Stevens. There were six teams all together and for us, the "Blah Blah Blah" team (Brother Brough made up the name), here was the results:

Game 1: vs. Phi Delts / ASA Team 1

·  Loss 8-3
Game 2: vs. Missouri Highway Patrol

·  Loss 15-0
Game 3: vs. Phi Sigs / ASA Team 2

·  Loss 8-7

Despite not winning any of the three games, everyone had a good time and AGD's enjoyed playing the games with us. Several of the other Greek organizations enjoyed playing our team as well, moving our relationship with other organizations even closer. Good job guys!

4/09/06 New Officers
At our Sunday business meeting, we initiated our new Executive Council for the upcoming year. Here is our new Executive Council for the 2006/2007 school year:

  • Brent Stevens, Vice President
  • Keith Langabee, Secretary
  • Tim Dunsford, Treasurer
  • Andrew Murphy, FEO
  • Christopher Bates, Warden
  • Andrew Guerrero, Historian
  • Cole Kiner, Alumni Secretary
  • Christopher Alexander, Music Director

4/07/06 Greek Scholar of the Year
At the end of Greek Week, an awards banquet is held to recognize those organizations that did well in the week's activities, and to present Chapter and Individual awards. These presented awards are based on the Greek Awards packet that the chapter turned in several weeks ago. We only qualified for two of the fourteen awards this year, but that will change in the year to come as our involvement in the Greek community grows. Of the two awards though, George Andrew Murphy, our current Fraternal Education Officer, was awarded the "Greek Scholar of the Year" award. Congrats go to Andrew for all the hard work he puts into everything that he does.

4/06/06 Greek Week Talent Show
10 members of the chapter participated in the Greek Week talent show, one of the VERY few things Nu Gamma could participate in due to a busy week for the music department. This group of men did an outstanding job, although it was put together last minute. The men sang three songs, starting with Viva La More, then serenading all the Sorority presidents, and ended with an arrangement of the "Family Guy" theme, arranged by Many H of SAI. They did not win anything for it, but it was received well by the other Greek organizations.

4/05/06 Senior Recital
Christopher Muehlich performed his Senior Recital on Wednesday. His shared concert with Mandy H. of the SAI's was a huge success. Chris composed and performed a piece called "Taikno", a combination of drumming and techno music, all done under black lights. This piece will also be played at the 4th Annual X-treme Percussion Show later this week on April 7th and 8th.

3/31/06 Battle of the Bands
Nu Gamma hosted its 3rd annual Battle of the Bands (BOB) at the Fine Arts Theater. 10 bands from different parts of the Midwest came to battle it out on stage. The top three winners of the competition would receive cash prizes of $500, $250, and $150 respectively. The results for the competition:

1st Place: In Memory Of... (Brother Brough is a member of this band)
2nd Place: Ross Christopher
3rd Place: Knate Harter's Band (Brother Harter is from the Fall '03 pledge class)

Congrats to all winners!! BOB is usually one of our big fundraisers of the year. However, this year we lost some money instead of gained. Although we did not make any money off BOB, we still lived up to our object of spreading music in America.

3/30/06 Mr. MWSU
The Alpha Gamma Delta's hosted their 10th Annual Mr. MWSU competition, where each fraternity nominated representatives to participate in the Men's "beauty competition". The last two years, Zach "Ziggy" Cochran represented our chapter, and won the talent award for a black light snare solo, as well as the formal award in 2004. This year, Keith Langabee represented the chapter. He won the talent award for a marimba solo, and nearly won the Spirit award by collecting $96 for Juvenile Diabetes, the AGD's philanthropy. Way to represent!
