2009 Meeting Minutes
May 26, 2009On May 26, 2009, the initiation ceremony was held and candidates received their pins. New candidates present were Kathryn Strasser, Hannah Strasser, Ashley Rainsbarger, Kelsey Corzine, Josie Clark, Gerri McClain, Jordan Porter, and Lauren Burbach.
Nominations for the 2009-2010 officers were also held. The following were nominated and voted in unanimously by those present at the meeting:
- President - Lisa Crawford
- Vice President - Hannah Strasser
- Secretary - Kelsey Corzine
- Web Designer/Historian - Rachel Stancliff
A list of possible activities for the next year were discussed, including ideas from last year, such as book drives, sponsoring readings with Canvas, the Writer's Circle, and becoming a sponsor for High School Writing Day. For the last idea, STD members could hold a contest for students, with students submitting their work to Sigma Tau Delta, and the best writer receiving a gift certificate. Members would also like to more actively participate in the Banned Book Reading on campus, perhaps a book drive for the local jail, and would like to hold separate readings from Canvas.
Returning members decided that approximately one meeting a month was appropriate, with an e-mail going out in the Fall to set up a time for the first one.
2008 Meeting Minutes
September 2, 2008STD members discussed ideas for becoming more involved this semester, including a homecoming float, reading, movie night, and initiation held this semester. The float will be in conjunction with SNCTE and possibly Prairie Lands, Canvas, and Writer’s Circle. We discussed themes of great American authors or contemporary authors within the overall patriotic theme of the parade. One member could provide a truck, but finding a trailer was still an issue.
Canvas and Writer’s Circle were groups considered to work with on the possible reading and venues such as Café Acoustic, the downtown campus, Hazels, and Spratt Theater were discussed. A movie night involving only movies that were good renditions of books was proposed. The possibility of coordinating with professors to make attendance extra credit was also brought up.
The meeting ended with the decision to have future meetings every other Tuesday in the English Library (Eder 211) at 5:45 and a reminder about the call for papers for the STD conference on November 7th. Papers can be either creative or academic and the submission deadline is October 7th. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 16th at the scheduled time and place.
