The Mochila Review was started in 2002 with one primary goal in mind—to publish the best poetry, prose, and short fiction that the nation has to offer.

The Mochila Review is published annually by Missouri Western State University's English, Foreign Languages, and Journalism Department, and it is edited by Dr. Bill Church.

The Mochila Review is one of the few journals staffed by undergraduate students. These undergraduates choose to take the course as an elective. The student staffers are involved in the selections of works, editing, and publication processes.

The word "mochila" comes from the Spanish word for saddle-bag. Pony Express riders carried letters in a mochila on their horses from St. Joseph, Missouri to California. Our journal carries on the tradition of our city and these adventuresome riders. The Mochila Review is a daring journal that delivers fine writing across the country.
