John Davis from Deloitte & Touche spoke to IMA on Tuesday,
October 27, 1999 at 5:30p.m.1
He Discussed the history of Deloitte & Touche, discussed what he looks for in
résumés and interviews, proper dress for work, work promotion or advancements, work
travel and expectations of holding a job for a Big 5 firm.
He presented this very well informal presentation with great enthusiasm.

Karen Havener is Vice President in Institute of Management
Accountants. She is from Blue Springs, Missouri. She is an accounting major and a music
performance minor. In her minor she specializes in violin and viola. In other words,
violin and viola are her instruments. She decided to join IMA for the experience and
knowledge to be learned throughout her college years. In IMA she likes the experience and
opportunities she can experience before entering the professional world. Her hobbies are
music, girl scouts, collecting and softball. She likes accounting because of how it is
analytical and how it works and challenges her mind. She says she was into business in
high school and that she likes business in general as well as accounting. She will be
graduating in May 2001 with a BSBA in accounting. She plans to attend graduate school
before becoming a CPA or public accountant. |

Technical Meeting

The Pony Express Professional IMA Chapter held their October
technical meeting at The Belt Brewing Company. This months meeting was "Student
Night". The chapter has a student night each year to encourage students to attend the
monthly technical meetings. On "Student Night" the meal is free to the students
($10 value). There were ten students from Missouri Western at the meeting. The speaker was
David Reed from Boehringer Ingelheim. He gave students and professionals some very helpful
information and advice on interviewing skills and business etiquette. Mr. Reed was a very
entertaining speaker. Some of the information given came from a web site at

The next technical meeting is November 18th. Donna Grider will speak about
E-Commerce. More information will be posted on the IMA board on the 3rd floor of the
administration building.
