DPU at Kansas City at 2008 Nationals. From left to right: Clint Payne, Leona Long, Whitney Wagner, Jerri Ann Donelson, Frankie Olson, Jill Miller and Abbey Schofield.
Just a bit of history must follow every organization. And so we shall comply...... The organization was the child of Advisor Jill Miller. With help from her students, they began pondering the name for their organization and DPU emerged. They felt that with the names available, DPU was the closest they would get to an abbreviation of Deputy, which was their plan to begin with! The Chapter Delta Phi Upsilon began meeting in the Fall of 1979, though it was not chartered or recognized until February 1980. In the Fall of 1980, Jill and one student went to the National conference. The next Fall, however, a whole group of members accompanied Jill to Kirksville, Missouri for the 1980 Regional Conference. Since then, DPU has hosted the 1990 National Conference in Kansas City, Missouri as well as at least four Regional Conferences.
Our Advisor Jill, has been with our organization for 28 years and a Professor here at MWSU for 30 years, being Chair of the CJ Department for 8 years. The numerous volunteer programs and projects she has been a part of only enhance her ability to lead us and show us how people really do make a difference if they stop and ask "how". We strive to be able to follow her lead in the days ahead. She is retiring July 31, 2008 from MWSU. DPU will miss her tremendously and hope only to make her proud leaving her legacy in our hands. Jill, we have appreciated everything you have done for DPU and wish you well in your future endeavors!

Delta Phi Upsilon is a great way to get involved on campus and in the community! We offer many areas of study, competition and volunteer work in relation to your major's emphasis. We have opportunities for everyone..... Firearms Our firearms team is under construction right now, but any help you can provide would be great! Contact Frankie Olson at fah0582@missouriwestern.edu with any suggestions! The firearms team meets once a week to practice shooting for the regional and national competitions. However, the simple fact that shooting is fun may be another reason people show up to the meetings each week. Our usual meeting place is Pigeon Hill, though a time has not yet been established. It isn't necessary to own your own gun to participate - if you don't have one, one will be provided for you. Protective ears and eyeglasses will also be provided. You don't have to buy your own ammo, but everyone on the team pays a fee to cover its cost. New members are welcome, even those who've never held a gun before! If you're interested, contact us! Community Service We do several community service events per semester. In the past, we have helped at Ronald McDonald House, cleaned a section of the highway, and handed out surveys for Pleasant Heights. We have helped with kids at the after school program at the Salvation Army and worked crowd control at the Mardi Gras Parade and Trails West!, where we met Taylor Swift and Craig Morgan. Participating in community service is a great way to give back to your community, as well as a lot of fun to do with a group of friends! Fundraisers Of course we have to do fundraisers so that we can do fun things as an organization. Here are a few we have done: sold magazines, took tickets at MWSC football games, sold Redwheel, Pizza Hut night, and worked the Big 12 game and a Chiefs game and sold Forensic T-Shirts (we still have some!). This year we plan to do much more and even help out the community in the process! We are looking to sell LAE bracelets and have a sucker tree available the beginging of the 2008 Fall semester and in the past have, raffled off two beautiful hand-made quilts bearing the LAE emblem at the National conference.
Regional & National Competitions We go to two conferences each year and compete in a variety of events. So many, in fact, that we've devoted a whole page to the conferences!
