Excellence in French Studies Awards
The Alliance Française de Saint Joseph (AFSJ) offers an
Excellence in French Studies Award every year to the three best high-school
French students. The purpose of the award is to preserve and advance the French
Language in high schools in Northwestern Missouri. The first prizes include
books and cash awards. This program is a partnership between the Alliance
Française de Saint Joseph and Missouri Western State University.
To participate in the competition, the student needs to be selected by a French
teacher in his or her high school as the representative of the school. Each
school can be represented by only one student. The competition includes a
written exam and an oral interview, both offered on the campus of Missouri
Western in the spring. The jury is composed of three members: a Graduate Student
from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, a teacher from a local high
school, and a representative from the AFSJ. The winners will be notified with a
phone call and an official letter from the AFSJ; they will be invited to the
awards ceremony where a representative of the Alliance Française de Saint Joseph
will present them with their awards. The other candidates will receive a
certificate of participation.
