ALUMNA APPOINTED TO WESTERN BOARD OF GOVERNORS

St. Joseph, Mo. - Aug. 10, 2010 - Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed Deborah J. Smith to the Missouri Western State University Board of Governors.

Smith, a 1979 graduate of Western with a bachelor's degree in business administration, lives in Country Club Village, Mo. She is a private contractor for Shelter Insurance, a school board member for the Savannah R-III School District and a member of the board of directors of Northwest Health Services. Smith is also on the advisory board for Cotillion for Achievement, having served the scholastic benefit organization in numerous positions, including president.

Gov. Nixon has appointed Smith to a term ending Oct. 29, 2014. She replaces Diza Eskridge, who died on June 29. Smith's appointment is subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate.
