Missouri Writing Projects Network
Gateway Writing Project (St. Louis)
Since 1978, the Gateway Writing Project has offered Summer Invitational Institutes and in-service workshops in urban, suburban, and rural schools. Courses and professional development programs emphasize building teacher knowledge and skill in teaching writing, using technology in writing instruction, recognizing cultural diversity, and conducting action research. The University of Missouri at St. Louis sponsors the GWP.
Greater Kansas City Writing Project (Kansas City)
During the school year and through the summer, in Invitational and Open Institutes, in-service programs, action research groups, and youth programs, the Greater Kansas City Writing Project has provided comprehensive educational programs in the teaching of writing at all levels since its first Invitational Institute in 1983. The GKCWP is sponsored by and housed on the University of Missouri at Kansas City campus.
Missouri Writing Project (Columbia)
One of the earliest sites in the nation, the Missouri Writing Project, located at the University of Missouri, conducted its first Summer Invitational Institute in 1977. In addition to the Summer Institute, MWP offers an Advanced Institute and sponsors teacher writing groups and in-service workshops, all to prepare teachers to develop as writers and serve as curriculum leaders. The MWP also offers youth writing programs specifically designed for students in all grades.
Ozarks Writing Project (Springfield)
The Ozarks Writing Project, received national funding as a permanent site of the National Writing Project in 2008. The OWP hold regular opportunities, such as the summer invitational institute for teachers in Springfield and surrounding rural areas, a Digital Storytelling Institute, a DIY/Makers Conference, and a Youth Writing Conference for fifth-eighth graders. The OWP serves area teachers and school districts through professional development opportunities such as inservices, book study groups and writing groups.The OWP is housed and sponsored at Missouri State University.
Prairie Lands Writing Project (St. Joseph)
Sponsored by the St. Joseph School District and Missouri Western State University, Prairie Lands Writing Project works to improve student writing and the teaching of writing throughout northern Missouri. PLWP Teacher Consultants conduct in-service workshops at area schools, participate in writing groups, complete action research projects, and sponsor forums and workshops related to writing and teaching writing. Teacher Consultants also sponsor summer youth writing camps for elementary and middle school children, and PLWP is the primary sponsor for the Missouri Writing Region's annual Scholastic Writing Awards Contest.
