Students Create Monstrous Sounds In Monster Concert The Young Monster Christmas Concert is sponsored by the St. Joseph Area Music Teachers Association and Missouri Western State University Department of Music and is guaranteed to delight all ages. The first Monster Concert at MWSU premiered in 1979. At the time, only college students participated in the event and sixteen pianos were used, instead of eight. The concerts were held annually for nine years. After a few years had passed, area piano teachers began searching for an event that could bring their students together. As a result, the Monster Concert was resurrected. Today, the concert promises a variety of style with performances from beginners, intermediate players, university piano majors, and everything in-between.
