Gayle A. Unruh, M.S. with a bird on her head!

Gayle A. Unruh is the Environmental and Historic Preservation Manager for the Missouri Department of Transportation. In this position she leads a group of 45-employees that provide expertise in environmental and cultural resource planning, documenting, and permitting through the National Environmental Policy Act and associated laws. Before taking the manager position she was the wetland coordinator and a wetland specialist where she did wetland delineating, wetland mitigation planning and constructing, and Clean Water Act permit processing for MoDOT. After graduating from McPherson College in environmental science (BA-1979) and Western Illinois University in zoology (MS-1989) and before coming to MoDOT, Gayle worked in wildlife biology, avian toxicology, and document writing for projects through out the country. She has also taught environmental science for Columbia College in Jefferson City. Gayle shares her life and home with her husband, Dr. William R. Elliott, cave biologist extraordinaire.
