Griffon Athletics
Griffon Athletics consists of ten intercollegiate
athletic teams, four for men (football, basketball,
baseball, golf) and six for women (volleyball,
basketball, softball, tennis, soccer, golf). Missouri
Western is affiliated with the National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level and
competes within the Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association (MIAA). The MIAA is composed of 12
institutions in Missouri, Nebraska and Kansas and is
widely considered the top conference at the Division II
level.
2009-2010 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
ON THE PLAYING FIELD
- Seven Griffon teams qualified for post-season
play
- Football won nine games for the fifth time in
six years, 2010 Mineral Water Bowl Champions
- Women’s Soccer set a new school record for wins
- Men's Basketball was selected to the 2010 NCAA
Tournament
- Softball began the season ranked #8 in the
country in the NFCA poll
- 1 MIAA Freshman of the Year (Natalie Bird -
Griffon Golf)
- 36 All-MIAA Conference Selection
- 14 All-Region Selections
- 1 NCAA All-America Selections (Cedric Houston -
Griffon Football)
- 2 former Griffons started in an NFL game (Gijon
Robinson - Indianapolis Colts, Roger Allen - St.
Louis Rams
- 2 former Griffon golfers won prestigious events

Open (Adams Tight Lies Tour), Brad Nurski - 2010
Missouri Amateur Champion
- MWSU along with the City of St. Joseph hosted
the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball
National Championship and the 2010 NCAA Softball
National Championship
