What is Sport and Fitness Management?
Sport and Fitness Management programs prepare people to take on leadership positions in sport and fitness settings, such as running health clubs and managing sports teams at all levels. Students learn business, sales and marketing skills. They also learn health and safety standards and public communications to foster professional growth. Do you already believe in the value of fitness and sports for people of all ages? Do you consider yourself a natural leader? If so, sport and fitness management may be the program for you.

Master of Applied Science in Sport & Fitness Management
The Master of Applied Science in Sport and Fitness Management is a comprehensive program that prepares students to assume supervisory and administrative positions in facility and event management, college athletics, professional sports organizations, non-profit agencies, public/private/corporate fitness facilities, cardiac rehabilitation and community based/amateur athletic programs. Included in this program are:

  • 18 hours of graduate core courses
  • 15-18 hours of MAS Sport & Fitness Management concentration
  • Graduate Internship OR Thesis option

Graduate Curriculum:

Courses Required: 32 credits

The core courses for the MAS include 18 hours of core professional course work: 

  • COM 601 Professional and Organizational Communications (3)
                                     OR
    ENG  540 Writing for Management and Supervision (3)
                                     OR
    ETC  600 Technical Communications Theory and Practice (3)

    MGT 503 Organization Theory (3)
  • MKT 605 Marketing Strategy (3)
  • ECO 607 Managerial Economics (3)
  • MAT 609 Technical Analysis for Decision Making (3)
  • MAS 695 Graduate Colloquium (3)
An additional 13-15 credits are required for the MAS option:

        525 Legal Aspects of Sport and Fitness 3 hrs
        542 Facilities Design and Management 3 hrs
        610 Leadership Effectiveness in Sport and Fitness Management 3 hrs
        651 Research Methods 3 hrs
        630 Internship 3 hrs
                   OR                                                                                                         
        655 Thesis 6 hrs (Option)

  • *You must complete the institutional application to be considered for admission into our graduate program.
  • *You must submit a letter of application and one academic letter (undergraduate degree) of reference to the HPER Department.
  • *You must have an undergraduate GPA minimum of 2.75
