2005 St. Joseph International Guitar Festival & Competition

Thanks to everyone who attended, performed, competed and volunteered!

A WORD FROM THE FESTIVAL DIRECTOR

Dear Friends of the St. Joseph International Guitar Festival & Competition,

I’m pleased to announce the winners of the 2005 competition sponsored by Missouri Western State University, Department of Music (Department Head, Dr. Matt Gilmour) in St. Joseph, Missouri, USA.

The competition was EXTREMELY severe with competitors that came to St. Joseph from the US, Canada, Bulgaria, Uruguay, Brazil, Germany, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Italy, Costa Rica.

Headline Performers included musicians and dancers from the US, Poland, Spain, Mexico, Argentina and Nicaragua, including the ensemble, Tango Lorca (directed by Beau Bledsoe), Isaac Bustos and Robert Trent with post-concert jam sessions organized by the brilliant jazz/rock/prog guitarist, Jason Riley.

The final ranking of the competition was:
FIRST PRIZE: Alieksey Vianna (Brazil)
SECOND PRIZE: Marco Sator (Uruguay)
THIRD PRIZE: Joseph Williams (USA)

I would like to point out that this is the first time that an American has been able to place in the competition (with past finalists including guitarists from Nicaragua, Mongolia and Serbia). A prize list is here.

We’re EXTREMELY proud of the tremendous level of guitarists that appeared in this year’s festival and especially proud of the camaraderie that we have developed among all the musicians through this festival. I sincerely hope that you will look for these brilliant guitarists and support their international careers when they appear in your area.

I look forward to keeping you informed of next year’s ST. JOSEPH INTERNATIONAL GUITAR FESTIVAL & COMPETITION and remain,

With Very Highest Regards,
Anthony GLISE,
Festival Director
