Course Offering Guidelines
From MWSU Graduate School Policy Portal
In order to help ensure that faculty teaching graduate courses will receive full load for their courses, the following guidelines have been created. Program directors of small programs are encouraged to have open communication with students regarding these guidelines.
Guidelines
If a program has fewer than 4 continuing students, then the program must admit at least 3 new students in order to offer a full curriculum. If fewer than 3 new students are enrolled, only courses the continuing students need to graduate can be offered.
Programs not able to offer a full curriculum will attempt to enroll at least 5 students for a cohort every other year.
A program that fails to admit at least 10 students over the course of 4 years will have admissions suspended until such time as they can demonstrate adequate need.
Graduate courses (except courses where load is calculated using the independent study formula) with enrollments of less than 5 will need to be justified, and may lead to recommendations regarding reduced offering in the future.
Programs with fewer than 5 continuing students shall not be allowed to admit any international students unless the current admissions cohort has at least 5 students.
