When are classes held?
Classes are offered during the fall, spring and summer terms, and will typically be scheduled for the late afternoon or evening.Why is integration important?
Information processing is the core of business decision making. Management of this valuable resource is extremely important for the survival of any business. Having individuals on staff who have both technical skills and business skills is vital.Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a background in computer technology including a major or minor in computer science, computer information systems, management information science, computational mathematics, or satisfactory performance on the department’s assessment instrument.Minimum requirements of the Graduate School must also be met.
How is this different from a traditional master’s degree?
Unlike the traditional master’s program, Western’s MAS degree provides a solid core of courses in the chosen option, combined with courses in business, communication, marketing, economics, statistics, and management.The MAS degree is a Professional Master’s Degree because it integrates graduate level business knowledge with technical competency. Applied learning and applied research are important aspects of the degree, and students will work in teams and apply their skills to real problems and issues.
Who should enroll in this option?
This option is for someone currently in the IT field, or someone who has an undergraduate degree in the area and is looking to assume a management role in the IT field.
The ITM option provides students with a background in corporate information security, network administration and integration of IT resources. In addition, program graduates will develop knowledge of organizational behavior, marketing strategy, and managerial economics. Graduates will gain skills in communication, problem solving, decision making, leadership and management; and experience working in a team environment with emerging technologies.
Demand and Careers
This degree will help you move into IT management roles within any organization. Business is experiencing an ever increasing reliance upon information technology in conducting their affairs. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics cites the need for managers of computational information systems to grow at a much faster rate than the average rate for all occupations.
How does this degree prepare me for a career?
The courses are designed to provide a balance between management skills and technical expertise. You will learn to manage people and projects as well as gain a broader knowledge base of important IT issues including networking, software integration and security.Curriculum
