BEYOND EXCELLENCE

Dear Friends,

I am proud to announce that over $17.7 million has been raised through the Achieving Greatness capital campaign, exceeding the initial goal of $15 million by 18 percent.

The campaign has seen the two largest gifts in Western’s history: $5.5 million from Steve Craig of Newport Beach, Calif., and $5 million from Wes and Patsy Remington of St. Joseph. Steve Craig’s gift allowed the creation of Western’s Steven L. Craig School of Business and was a significant factor in Western receiving prestigious accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). The gift from Wes and Patsy Remington helped build and equip the new Remington Hall and renovated Agenstein Hall for Western’s science and math facilities.

All campaign goals have been met or exceeded with the exception of the Science Building Endowment goal which remains short by approximately $318,000. However, we are confident that this goal will be met soon. This endowment is extremely important because when new facilities are constructed the University does not receive additional, annual operating support to maintain them. This endowment will help to offset ongoing maintenance needs for Agenstein Hall and Remington Hall.

One especially satisfying aspect of the campaign has been the deepening commitment to the school by several local individuals, businesses, foundations and charitable trusts. In addition, nearly half of the donors to the campaign to date have contributed more than their total lifetime giving on record, and nearly 30 percent are first-time donors. We’re grateful that their belief in the university’s mission has motivated them to so generously contribute their time, talent and financial resources to the cause.

Over the years, there have been a number of changes at Western, but it has always remained true to its mission and commitment to excellence in all endeavors. Western achieves its mission each day because of the dedicated faculty, staff, alumni, and friends who collaborate with us. Your partnership is the key to our success. Thank you for helping Western Achieve Greatness!

Sincerely,
Dan J. Nicoson
