The
Beyond Excellence Initiative is the direct response of Western’s
commitment to achieving its strategic goals and vision. The
Beyond Excellence Initiative is a five-year strategy to develop
the most modern facilities, equipment and other resources at
Western.
In all, the initiative calls for a major investment of public
and private funds to enhance Western’s mission to the students
and community it serves.

The funds to support the Beyond Excellence Initiative projects
are anticipated to be available from the following sources:

From the State of Missouri for the expansion and
renovation of the science and mathematics building. In 2007, the
Missouri General Assembly passed legislation that provided for
capital funds for this project. |

From a federal Economic Development Administration
grant for the construction of the Christopher S. “Kit” Bond
Science and Technology Incubator |

From a bond issue for improvements to athletic
facilities to be supported by Max Experience funds. |

From private contributions through the capital

The initiative represents an initial investment of $53 million
in resources and facilities for Western. To date, over $37
million in public funds have been secured to address science,
technology, and athletic projects. With significant investments
secured, Western is now positioned to expand the Beyond
Excellence Initiative.
