Affiliated Foods Employee/Dependent Scholarship

Criteria for the scholarship include: 1. employee or dependent of full-time employee at Affiliated Foods; 2. must be enrolled in at least half time (6 hours); 3. must complete scholarship application form and deadline for submission; 4. minimum GPA of 2.0.

Alma Pletcher Endowment Trust Scholarship

Alumni Association Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st
Missouri Western Alumni Association

MWSU Alumni Association provides scholarships from the annual fund to help cover the costs of tuition, books, and other education expenses. Alumni Association scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit (requiring a minimum 3.5 GPA) or on a combination of need and merit (requiring a minimum 3.0 GPA). Preference is given to students who have completed at least one semester of college.

Andrews-Whitaker Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is provided by Mr. and Mrs. Patrick H. Whitaker of St. Joseph in memory of their parents, Madeline Keil Andrews, George H. Andrews, Cora Ann Johnson Whitaker, and James W. Whitaker. Interest from the scholarship fund is available annually to students who have demonstrated academic excellence and financial need.

Bill Carter Memorial Scholarship

The Bill Carter Memorial Scholarship is a $250.00 scholarship given out each fall and spring semester to a worthy gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender (GLBT) student or the child of a GLBT person. Recipients may reapply if a GPA of 2.5 is maintained and they are a member in good standing of Pride Alliance. A student may receive the scholarship 3 times while at MWSU. The scholarship was started by the Midland Empire Taskforce and is based on community involvement, academic success, and financial need. An applicant must meet the following minimum requirements:
possess a 2.5 GPA and maintain satisfactory academic progress; enroll full-time (minimum of 12 hours); be in good standing at the University; be a GLBT person or the child of a GLBT person; demonstrate active involvement in the GLBT community and/or authentic contributions to society as a whole; and be a member of Pride Alliance. Incoming freshmen and transfer students may be considered, but are expected to have been involved with some group with a mission similar to the Pride Alliance and are expected to join during their first semester.

Bob Berger Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Bob Berger, Director of Financial Aid from 1970 to 2002 by friends and family. Recipients of this scholarship should be a junior or senior majoring in Education, Nursing, or Wildlife Biology with a minimum GPA of 2.8. Financial need will be a consideration. Applicants should submit two professional (instructor and/or employer) references using the online reference letter request form.

Constance Fauntleroy Runcie Scholarship Fund

This award was established by the Runcie Club of St. Joseph, MO. One scholarship will be awarded to a student who has completed 60 hours and majoring in the Arts, Humanities, Science, Computer (not Math), or Education. To be eligible the student must carry a GPA of 3.5 in major courses and a 3.0 overall. Financial need shall be a consideration.

Corinne Hancock Memorial Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship may be of any major and any class year. Recipient must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Financial need may be a consideration with preference given to single parents. Two references required. May be renewed if criteria is maintained.

Dr. Nolan Morrison Memorial Student Fund

Established in memory of Nolan Morrison, this fund is used for unexpected and emergency expenses of students who cannot obtain financial aid.

Dubach Scholarship for Humanitarian Careers

The Dubach Scholarship will be awarded to an individual with a planned career goal in Christian ministry (including sacred music), nursing, or special education. The recipient(s) shall have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0. Renewal and continuance of the scholarship is possible through the completion of a MWSU degree; however, reapplication is required each year.

Elliott Goldman and Libbie Loraine Goldman Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st
Missouri Western Foundation

This endowed scholarship fund, established in 1980 by Elliott Goldman and his sister Libbie Loraine Goldman in memory of their parents, Dora and Ruben Goldman, and of their brothers, Dr. Nathan L. Goldman and Abe Goldman, is to be available annually to students who demonstrate leadership abilities, academic excellence, and financial need. Each scholarship will be in the amount of current annual in-state tuition and fees. Recipients must be full-time residents of Buchanan County and full-time students. All students may apply. However, preference will be given to junior and senior students who plan to apply for admission to law school and students majoring in art or business administration.

Florence Smith / Association of College Women Scholarship

This award was established in memory of Florence Smith by the Association of College Women. In order to qualify the student must maintain a GPA of at least 3.5, provide 1 character and 2 academic references, and be a woman in a degree program with a junior or senior standing. Financial need shall be a consideration.

Frank R. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund

Frank R. Smith served as director of public relations and of publications from 1967 to 1979. In his memory, a scholarship fund has been established to provide assistance to students based on satisfactory scholarship standing and their demonstrated need. Preference will be given to students with an interest in communication and journalism.

Goppert Scholarship

The Goppert Scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time student in good standing.
Preference will be given to applicants with primary residence in Lathrop, Missouri or Norborne, Missouri.  Financial need shall be the determining factor among qualified applicants.

Hausman Family Scholarship

This scholarship is open to all majors with preference given to students majoring in Education, Business, Construction Engineering or Nursing. Recipients must have a GPA of 3.0 and be enrolled full-time. Over above, scholarship applications must contain evidence of community service and at least three letters of reference. Financial need shall be the determining factor among qualified candidates.

Hilda and Harry Drake Memorial Loan Fund
Missouri Western Aid Program

This is an interest free loan fund for eligible students intended to help meet unusual expenses. It is hoped that the student will pay the loan back as soon as possible so other students may be helped.

The Indian Student Scholarship

This scholarship is available to first-time or transfer international students from India who have been admitted into an undergraduate or graduate degree program at Missouri Western. All majors are eligible. Financial need will be the determining factor among qualified candidates.

Jack and Frieda Zurow Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to Junior or Senior students majoring in a service field including but not limited to the following majors: Nursing, Social Work, Physical Therapy, Education, Criminal Justice. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to qualify. The recipient will be selected by the Missouri Western State University Faculty Scholarship Committee.

James W. Supple Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of James W. Supple, a member of the MWSU Foundation Board of Directors and international representative of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters. To qualify for the scholarship, the student must belong to a union or be the immediate family of a union member, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5, and be a full-time student.

John and Mary Veoski Scholarship

The John and Mary Veoski Scholarship fund offers awards to needy students coming from families at or below the federally established poverty level (family size considered).  Recipients must maintain at least a 3.00 GPA at MWSU as a condition of receiving this award.

John Sublett Logan Business Undergraduate Scholarship

Missouri Western Department Aid Program

The John Sublett Logan Business Undergraduate Scholarship provides assistance to full-time, junior and senior students who intend to pursue graduate degrees in Accounting, Business, Economics, or Legal Studies.  Applicants must have completed a minimum of 60 hours, have a minimum GPA of 3.20, earned a composite ACT of 23 or above, participate in community service, be a declared major in Business, Legal Studies, Accounting, or Economics, and reside in Buchanan, Platte, Andrew, Clay, or Clinton county in Missouri.

Karl V. Bell APA Scholarship

Kelly Patterson and Procter & Gamble Paper Division Scholarship

Kiefer Scholarship Fund

Bequests of Miss Katherine Kiefer and Miss Josephine Kiefer established this fund to benefit men and women living in the St. Joseph, Missouri or Wathena, Kansas area. Interest from the fund is available annually.

Kiesselbach-Mullican International/ Intercultural Research Grant

Kiwanis Club Community Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Kiwanis Club of St. Joseph and will be awarded to a Junior or Senior degree seeking student who shows a strong desire to succeed, a sincere interest in community involvement and does not qualify for any other scholarship or aid. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required and financial need will be a consideration.

Lt. Kent M. Kiepe Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Lt. Kent M. Kiepe, a graduate of Missouri Western State University.  This endowed scholarship is available to a student who demonstrates citizenship and leadership, has a solid academic performance with a GPA of 3.0, and has financial need.

Marian Mitchell Scholarship

The Marian Mitchell Scholarship is awarded annually to senior level students with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  With the exception of Physical Education, all majors are eligible to apply.

Milton Litvak Memorial Scholarship-Government

For pre-law and/or political science and public affairs, 3.0 GPA to qualify and maintain.  Must be a Sophomore or higher to apply.  Must provide the contact information (name, address, and phone number) of 3 references.  Financial need will be considered.

M.O. Looney Community Service Scholarship

The M.O. Looney Scholarship is available to a sophomore, junior, or senior, full-time student with a record of community service.  A GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale is required. Recipient must work a total of 125 hours per academic year doing community service (equivalent of $8.00 per hour).

Missouri Savings for Tuition (MOST)

Missouri Western Aid Program

Missouri Western State University offers a $500 Scholarship to first time freshmen students whose families have established an account in the student's name in the Missouri Saving for Tuition (MOST) Program. Ten non-renewable scholarships will be provided. Families will be responsible for providing documentation of at least two years participation in the MOST Program by submitting a statement from MOST indicating an active account for the student. Recipient selection will be based on need, as determined by the results of the FAFSA.

Opal LaValle Steward Scholarship

Pete O. Reiplinger Memorial Scholarship

Pete O. Reiplinger, 1934 Alumnus of the St. Joseph Junior College, provided an estate gift to the Missouri Western State University Foundation.  Pete and his wife Myrtle lived in St. Joseph and his father, Oliver Reiplinger, served as a member of the St. Joseph Fire Department.  It was Mr. Reiplinger's wish that these funds be used for scholarships with special consideration given to children of the St. Joseph Fire Department.

Recreation Services                

Missouri Western Department Aid Program

Scholarships are available to students for assisting in the operation of the university's intramural program.  Students will be selected based upon previous intramural and recreational experience, previous leadership positions, ability to relate to philosophy in intramural programs, and participants and recommendations from references.

R.F.B. Acton Scholarship

Student must be full time majoring in Music, Theatre & Cinema, or other performing arts area major with minimum GPA 3.0.  Preference given to applicant with demonstrated accomplishments in dance.

Robert W. & Barbara J. Keener Scholarship

Created to assist deserving students who want to continue their education but need financial assistance.  Two letters of reference and transcript required.  Students may renew the scholarship if they maintain a "C" average in all subjects and enroll in a minimum of 14 hours per semester.

Rotary Scholarship                   

Private Donor

One scholar granted opportunity for a full academic year's study abroad - all expenses paid.  As "Ambassador of Goodwill", Rotary scholar is expected to speak in the host country as well as local clubs upon their return home.  All disciplines, senior or recent graduate.  GPA 3.0 or higher.

Sally Juden Reed Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established in memory of Sally Juden Reed, an active community volunteer with an interest in social welfare. Applicants must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student with an ACT of at least 19 or a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. Current students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. A current recipient of this scholarship must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to renew the scholarship. Preference will be given to current or past residents of the Noyes Home for Children in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Ted Walkowiak Memorial Scholarship

The Taco John's Scholarship                  

Private Donor

Taco John's has established a scholarship program for its employees with financial need desiring a degree from MWSU.  Scholarship amounts will depend upon in-state fees and hours worked per week.  A 2.0 GPA will be required for the scholarship.

Thomas Farthing Graduate Scholarship

The Thomas Farthing Graduate Scholarship is a merit-based graduate scholarship available to those students admitted into Missouri Western's Graduate program.

Western Frontier Scholarship

Deadline:  Priority March 1st                    

Missouri Western Aid Program

This scholarship is awarded to students that are not residents of Missouri who score a minimum composite of 23 on the ACT.  The award cannot be combined with the Midwest Student Exchange Program or the Neighboring States Scholarship.  The scholarship is worth an amount up to $1,500 per year.  The student must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for renewal.  Priority Deadline: March 1st

Western Public Service Internship Award

Deadline:  Priority March 1st                    

Missouri Western Aid Program

These awards are granted to Missouri Western students participating in a public service internship. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. The scholarship will pay up to 12 hours tuition (dependent upon the other institutional financial aid the student is receiving). If relocation is required, a stipend valued at up to $700 per month (maximum 5 months) is provided to assist with living expenses.
