Dr. Gilbert Kelley Pre-Med Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Missouri Western Foundation This scholarship has been established in memory of Dr. Gilbert "Gib" Kelley, a former member of Missouri Western State University's Foundation Board. This scholarship will be awarded to a student preparing to attend medical school, with a minimum 3.0 GPA who has completed sophomore or higher level. Financial need will be considered. Hirsch Pre-Med Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Missouri Western Foundation Established in honor of Edward M. Hirsch, this scholarship will be awarded to a student preparing to attend medical school with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and in need of financial assistance. Gregg Thompson Memorial Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Missouri Western Foundation A scholarship fund has been established by a contribution from the F. Gregg Thompson Foundation. The interest from this fund will be awarded annually by the Scholarship Committee with preference given to a student in the pre-medical field. If a pre-medical student is not available, the committee may select a biological science student to receive the scholarship. Financial need is not necessarily the major element in the awarding of the scholarship; however if applicants have equal academic standing, financial need will be the deciding factor. Contact Information: Foundation Office, 816/271-5647 Midwest Apex Project (MAP) Scholarship Deadline: March 1st National Science Foundation S-STEM Program Grant This scholarship is designed to provide significant funding (a total of 8 awards will be made averaging $5600 and renewable for up to 4 years) to students intending to pursue or currently pursuing a bachelors degree offered through the Department of Biology, Chemistry (with the exception of medical technology), Computer Science Mathematics and Physics, or Engineering Technology and demonstrating financial need. Freshman applications must have an ACT composite ≥ 23; and returning student applicants must have a cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0, and have taken MAT 116, 119, or 130 and received a grade of B or better. All applicants must have taken, or commit to enroll in one of the following courses during their first semester as a MAP scholar: BIO 105, BIO 106, CHE 111, CSC 184, EGT 205, MAT 147, or MAT 167; and are required to complete the FAFSA and submit the following components: 1) A description of their professional goals and interests; 2) A letter of recommendation from a former teacher or college faculty member. Award finalists will be asked to engage in a personal interview with MAP selection committee members. Applicants must be full time students and US citizens or permanent residents. All applicants are required to complete the FAFSA and submit a letter of recommendation from a former teacher or college faculty member. Applicants must be full time students and US citizens or permanent residents. MAP Incentive Awardees successfully completing the course with a grade of A or B and maintaining an overall GPA ≥ 3.0 will be encouraged to apply for a MAP Scholarship for the following academic year. Krikor and Kay Partamian in honor of their Mothers. The scholarship is for a Pre-Med / Biology major with a minimum 3.0 GPA and a Buchanan County resident. Financial need will be a consideration for a sophomore or higher level. Glaze Scholarship-PreMed Deadline: March 1st Missouri Western Foundation A scholarship fund has been established by Mr. and Mrs. Clark C. Glaze, the interest from which is to be available as a scholarship. If used by a student in a pre-medical course, the scholarship is to be known as the Emily B. Glaze Scholarship. If used by a student in pre-engineering, the scholarship will be known as the Clark C. Glaze Scholarship. Application Procedures: Complete the General Scholarship Application requirements. Kiekhaefer, M.D. Health Care Career Scholarship-PreMed Deadline: March 1st Missouri Western Foundation Established by family and friends in memory of Dr. Theodore C. Kiekhaefer. Dr. Kiekhaefer was the founder of the MedClinic of St. Joseph and Savannah. He created many jobs in health care and mentored many young people aspiring to make a career of helping others. Students should be interested in, and progressing toward a medically related field such as medicine, nursing, x-ray technology, etc. A GPA of 2.5 or higher is required.
