Bob Berger Memorial Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Dr. Keith R. Roberts Memorial Scholarship for the Advancement of Science Deadline: March 1st The Dr. Keith R. Roberts Memorial Scholarship for the Advancement of Science was established by friends and family of Dr. Roberts who served as director of research, grants and sponsored programs at Missouri Western. To qualify, students must be a full-time undergraduate with a declared major in Biology, Chemistry or Physics and have a GPA of at least 3.2. Preference will be given to students engaged in natural science research or with an interest in seeking a graduate degree in natural sciences. Two letters of reference are required. Owens Biology Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Missouri Western Department Aid Program Recipients must be declared Biology majors; have, and maintain, a minimum GPA of 3.00; and have a career interest in Botany and / or Conservation Biology. This scholarship is awarded to a student with minimum 60 hours credit and progressing toward the requirements of the biology degree. Contact Information: Biology Department, 816/271-4379 John Rushin and David Ashley Biology Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Missouri Western Department Aid Program Established by Simon and Monya Rositzky in recognition of the service to the college by Dr. John Rushin and Dr. David Ashley. The recipient of this scholarship must be a declared biology major with a minimum classification of a sophomore, and with a career interest in field biology. The recipient must have a minimum cumulative college grade-point average of 3.0. The eligible recipient must demonstrate financial need; with all other factors being equal, financial need may be the determining factor in the selection process. Contact Information: Biology Department, 816/271-4379 Midwest Apex Project (MAP) Scholarship Deadline: March 1st National Science Foundation S-STEM Program Grant This scholarship is designed to provide significant funding (a total of 8 awards will be made averaging $5600 and renewable for up to 4 years) to students intending to pursue or currently pursuing a bachelors degree offered through the Department of Biology, Chemistry (with the exception of medical technology), Computer Science Mathematics and Physics, or Engineering Technology and demonstrating financial need. Freshman applications must have an ACT composite ≥ 23; and returning student applicants must have a cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0, and have taken MAT 116, 119, or 130 and received a grade of B or better. All applicants must have taken, or commit to enroll in one of the following courses during their first semester as a MAP scholar: BIO 105, BIO 106, CHE 111, CSC 184, EGT 205, MAT 147, or MAT 167; and are required to complete the FAFSA and submit the following components: 1) A description of their professional goals and interests; 2) A letter of recommendation from a former teacher or college faculty member. Award finalists will be asked to engage in a personal interview with MAP selection committee members. Applicants must be full time students and US citizens or permanent residents. MAP Incentive Awardees successfully completing the course with a grade of A or B and maintaining an overall GPA ≥ 3.0 will be encouraged to apply for a MAP Scholarship for the following academic year. Mike Sonnenmoser Biology Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Missouri Western Department Aid Program An endowment established by the family of Mike Sonnenmoser funds a scholarship available annually to a freshman student declaring biology as a major. The scholarship is renewable for eight semesters upon maintaining a 3.0 GPA (both cumulative and in the major). The student should rank in the upper 15% of their high school graduating class and have scored an ACT composite of 22 or above. Contact Information: Biology Department, 816/271-4379 Monya Rositzky Life Science Teaching Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Missouri Western Department Aid Program This scholarship was established in honor of Monya Rositzky a longtime supporter of various programs that advance the intellectual development and professional skills of Missouri Western Students. This scholarship is intended for a declared major in a Biology Department teaching program. Minimum GPA of 3.0 (incoming Freshman must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 as well) and demonstrated financial need. Contact Information: Biology Department, 816/271-4379 Science Scholarship Fund of MWSU Deadline: March 1st Missouri Western Department Aid Program Interest from this fund provides scholarships for students who have completed at least one semester successfully at MWSU and are interested in pursuing a pre-professional degree in science. Financial need, scholastic ability, and commitment are also selection factors. Application Procedures: Complete the General Scholarship Application requirements. Contact Information: Biology Department, 816/271-4379 Western Excellence Awards - Biology Deadline: Priority March 1st Missouri Western Department Aid Program Incoming Freshman Award: One, $1,000 Western Excellence Award will be available to an incoming Freshman with a minimum 3.5 high school GPA, top 15% of the graduating class, and minimum 24 ACT. Incoming Freshman awarded this scholarship will be required to enroll in BIO105 and CHE111 and declare a major in the Biology Department during the first semester. Successful completion of the first semester with a minimum 3.0 GPA will be required to maintain this scholarship during the second semester. Continuing Student Awards: Two, $1,000 Western Excellence Awards will be available to continuing students declaring a major in the Biology Department with a minimum 3.0 science GPA and demonstrated participation in departmental activities such as student organizations, research, etc. Application Procedures: Complete the General Scholarship Application requirements.
