Golden Griffon Scholarship

Missouri Western Aid Program
This award provides outstanding incoming freshmen with a four-year renewable scholarship valued at up to $7,500 per year. Requirements for the Golden Griffon candidacy include: a composite ACT score of 27 or above; ranking in the top 10% of their high school class or an overall GPA of 3.5 for all high school coursework; and evidence of involvement in extracurricular activities and community service. Applicants are required to submit two essays and complete a personal interview. Recipients must participate in the Honors Program, live in the residence halls, and maintain a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA for renewal. The Golden Griffon Scholarship may not be combined with other Gold Level Scholarships.

President's Academic Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to first-time students who have earned a minimum composite ACT of 27 and either rank in the top 10% of their high school graduating class or have an overall 3.50 GPA for all high school coursework. The scholarship is worth an amount up to $4,000 per year. The student must maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA for renewal. This scholarship may not be comblined with other Gold Level Scholarships.

G.E.D. Awards

Missouri Western Aid Program
This scholarship is awarded annually to individuals who are entering college for the first time and score 2750 or higher on the General Education Development Test (GED). The scholarship is worth an amount up to $500 per year if the student is enrolled in 12 hours or more. The award may be prorated for students enrolled between 6 and 12 hours. The award must be used in the students first twelve semesters. The student must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA for renewal. Students who scored a 285 or higher on the GED Test prior to 2002 are eligible for this scholarship. This scholarship may not be comblined with other Gold Level Scholarships.

Western A Plus Scholarship

Missouri Western Aid Program
The A Plus scholarship is awarded on a competitive bases to first-time freshmen students who are A Plus certified and have earned a 3.00 high school GPA. This scholarship is renewable for 8 semesters with a 3.25 GPA. This award is valued at up to $1,500 per year. Residents of Buchanan and Andrew counties in Missouri are eligible to receive an additional $500 per year. The A Plus Scholarship is stackable with federal and state grants and most Missouri Western scholarships.

Edith C. Brown Scholarship Program

This competitive scholarship is awarded annually to students who rank in the top 20 percent of their graduating high school class, have earned a minimum GPA of 2.70 and have been a participant in Upward Bound, Talent Search, 21st Century, or similar program. Awards will be based on a record of community service, personal interview, and letters of recommendation. Recipients must live in the residence halls, maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, and participate in community service at
Missouri Western. The scholarship is worth an amount up to $2,500 per year.

Up to ten, non-renewal scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded to students who have earned the Show-Me Scholars designation. The Show-Me Scholars Initiative was implemented by the Missouri Chamber Education Foundation and is part of a national program designed to motivate students to complete a more rigorous set of high school courses.

Midwest Student Exchange Program

Interstate Program
This program was established by the Midwestern Higher Education Commission to increase interstate educational opportunities for student of its member states. The program allows residents of Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin to enroll in specific designated programs at reduced tuition rates. Through MSEP,
Missouri Western will charge eligible students no more than 150% of the in-state resident tuition rate for specific programs. To qualify for the program:
- First-time freshman must have earned a minimum ACT composite score of 21 and a GPA of 3.00 for all high school coursework.
- Transfer students must have earned a 3.00 GPA for all college level coursework.
Recipients must maintain a 3.00 GPA for renewal. This award may not be combined with the Neighboring States Scholarship or the Western Frontier Scholarship.

Western Neighboring States Scholarship (

Missouri Western Aid Program
This scholarship is awarded annually to full-time students who are residents of a Missouri neighboring state (Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Illinois, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee). The award is valued at the difference between in- and out-of-state tuition for 12 credit hours. To qualify:
- First-time freshman must have earned a minimum ACT composite score of 21 and a GPA of 3.00 for all high school coursework.
- Transfer students must have earned a 3.00 GPA for all college level coursework.
Recipients must live in the residence halls and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA for renewal. This award may not be combined with the Midwest Student Exchange Program or the Western Frontier Scholarship.

Midwest Apex Project (MAP) Scholarship

National Science Foundation S-STEM Program Grant
This scholarship is designed to provide significant funding (a total of 8 awards will be made averaging $5600 and renewable for up to 4 years) to students intending to pursue or currently pursuing a bachelors degree offered through the Department of Biology, Chemistry (with the exception of medical technology), Computer Science Mathematics and Physics, or Engineering Technology and demonstrating financial need. Freshman applications must have an ACT composite ≥ 23; and returning student applicants must have a cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0, and have taken MAT 116, 119, or 130 and received a grade of B or better. All applicants must have taken, or commit to enroll in one of the following courses during their first semester as a MAP scholar: BIO 105, BIO 106, CHE 111, CSC 184, EGT 205, MAT 147, or MAT 167; and are required to complete the FAFSA and submit the following components: 1) A description of their professional goals and interests; 2) A letter of recommendation from a former teacher or college faculty member. Award finalists will be asked to engage in a personal interview with MAP selection committee members. Applicants must be full time students and US citizens or permanent residents.

Midwest Apex Project (MAP) Incentive Award

National Science Foundation S-STEM Program Grant
A total of 17 awards of $600 each will be made to students intending to pursue or currently pursuing a bachelors degree offered through the Department of Biology, Chemistry (with the exception of medical technology), Computer Science Mathematics and Physics, or Engineering Technology and demonstrating financial need, and enrolling in MAT 116, MAT 119, or MAT 130 in the Fall semester. Freshman applications must have an ACT composite ≥ 23. Returning student applicants must have a cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0. All applicants are required to complete the FAFSA and submit a letter of recommendation from a former teacher or college faculty member. Applicants must be full time students and US citizens or permanent residents. MAP Incentive Awardees successfully completing the course with a grade of A or B and maintaining an overall GPA ≥ 3.0 will be encouraged to apply for a MAP Scholarship for the following academic year.

Mike Sonnenmoser Biology Scholarship

An endowment established by the family of Mike Sonnenmoser funds a scholarship available annually to a freshman student declaring biology as a major. The scholarship is renewable for eight semesters upon maintaining a 3.0 GPA (both cumulative and in the major). The student should rank in the upper 15% of their high school graduating class and have scored an ACT composite of 22 or above.

Missouri Savings for Tuition (MOST)

Missouri Western State University offers a $500 Scholarship to first time freshmen students whose families have established an account in the student's name in the Missouri Saving for Tuition (MOST) Program. Ten non-renewable scholarships will be provided. Families will be responsible for providing documentation of at least two years participation in the MOST Program by submitting a statement from MOST indicating an active account for the student. Recipient selection will be based on need, as determined by the results of the FAFSA.

The Wayne Miller Scholarship has been established for the purpose of enabling area students to attend Missouri Western State University. Students will be awarded up to $2,500 per academic year to be used toward in-state tuition college expenses. Recipients will be selected from all eligible applicants from all Missouri high schools located in the counties of Andrew, Buchanan and DeKalb. Recipients of the scholarship will show demonstrated financial need, be a Business or Music major, and for as long as may be practical, be first generation college students.
