Central  Focus

AIM 525 Project Management is a three-hour graduate-level course that provides an In-depth study of media project organization from original conception to finished project. This includes individual team membersÕ responsibilities, timeline, accounting, marketing, and so on. This course is designed for students majoring in the Master of Applied Arts in Integrated Media and for non-majors interested in learning about managing media projects. This is a spring semester offering.

 

Competencies

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

¤ Know the basic kinds of media projects typically prepared.

¤ Understand how a project is conceptualized and organized.

¤ Identify team dynamics and their strengths and weaknesses.

¤ Know basic demands of budgeting and how to develop working budgets.

¤ Understand client relations and effectively employ them.

¤ Understand project testing, troubleshooting and implementation.

 

Assignments

Students will complete the following assignments:

¤ Assignment One — Breaking down client brief- ÒVision + Tools = TeamÓ

-Each student will present a formal ÒroundtableÓ project pitch outlining the vision of the project, the needed tools and the team assignment and their justifications to best execute the clientÕs desired result.  Paper 125pts. Presentation 125pts.

Points for assignments are awarded using criteria announced and discussed in class.

Assignments are due at the beginning of a given class period, either announced in class or indicated in the course outline. IMPORTANT: Late work is not accepted (except under extenuating circumstances the professor considers valid).

 

Grading Scale

The following scale will be used for all final grades this semester:

                        A         90-100%                    

                        B         80-89%                      

                        C         70-79%                      

                        D         60-69%                      

                        F          Below 60%                

 

 

ProfessorsÕ Office Hours, Contact Information

Linda Antas will post office hours when schedules are available for her private students, and will also hold office hours by appointment in Potter 201. Attendance

Students are expected to attend all class meetings. It is always better to come late or leave early rather than miss an entire meeting.

 

Academic Honesty Policy and Due Process

Academic honesty is required in all academic endeavors. Violations of academic honesty include any instance of plagiarism, cheating, seeking credit for anotherÕs work, falsifying documents or academic records, or any other fraudulent activity. Violations of academic honesty may result in a failing grade on the assignment, failure in the course, or expulsion from the University. When a studentÕs grade has been affected, violations of academic honesty will be reported to the Provost or designated representative on the Academic Honesty Violation Report forms.

Students are expected to do their own work for all assignments.
