and minors are offered?
- Bachelor of Science in Convergent Media. Students learn to use various media to write in a variety of contexts.
- Bachelor of Arts in English/Journalism.
Journalism graduates often find
positions as journalists or communication
specialists. They also pursue graduate
studies in English, particularly
creative writing.
- Bachelor of Arts in English/Literature.
Literature students leave Missouri
Western
well-prepared for advanced studies
in English or to enter professional
schools such as law or library
science.
- Bachelor of Arts in English/Public
Relations. Public Relations
graduates find positions in business
and/or professional settings
that demand a knowledge of and
proficiency in communication
skills.
- Bachelor of Arts in English/Technical
Communication. Technical
Communication graduates are well
prepared to enter the work world
as technical writing specialists.
- Bachelor of Science in Education/English leads
to certification by the state of
Missouri to teach Language Arts
in grades 9-12.
- Bachelor of Arts in French is
designed for students who wish
to use their extensive knowledge
of French in a business setting
or to enter graduate school in
French upon graduation.
- Bachelor of Arts in Spanish is
designed for students who wish
to use their extensive knowledge
of Spanish in a business setting
or to enter graduate school in
Spanish upon graduation.
- Bachelor of Science in Education/French leads
to certification by the state of
Missouri to teach French in grades
9-12.
- Bachelor of Science in Education/Spanish leads
to certification by the state of
Missouri to teach Spanish in grades
9-12.
Minors are available in Childhood Studies,
French, German, International Studies, Journalism,
Literature, Spanish and Technical Communication.

Our program offers a wide variety of majors,
allowing students to choose one that matches their interests
and goals.
We offer hands-on learning experiences with cutting-edge
technology and up-to-date software. You will also have the
opportunity to take advantage of outstanding study abroad programs
to Spain, Mexico, France, Ireland, Germany and England.
21 of the 25 full-time faculty members have their terminal
degrees, and several have published books in their fields.
Faculty members work closely with their students, developing
strong relationships that benefit their growth.

What type
of graduate schools and programs are your graduates attending?
Graduates
pursue advanced degrees at several universities, including
University of Missouri–Columbia,
University of Missouri–Kansas City and University of
Kansas, Lawrence. One recent graduate received a $25,000 Rotary
International Scholarship and earned her master’s degree
in France.
Missouri Western’s English, foreign language and
journalism programs prepare graduates for a variety of advanced
degrees, including teaching, law or administration.

The admission
requirements are the same as the institution’s.

As a high
school student, how should I prepare for an English, journalism
or foreign language degree?
Along with the Missouri high school core curriculum,
students are encouraged to take courses in a foreign language
and writing and join the student newspaper and yearbook staffs.

the typical class size?
Class sizes in majors courses average 15-18 students,
allowing for considerable one-on-one interaction between professors
and students.
