While dispositions deal with deep levels of awareness and motivations, behaviors address actions and performance. The Education Unit Professional Behaviors are ten categories of actions that are important for teacher candidates to consistently demonstrate while serving in host schools.

The TEN PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIORS below are stated in the same way they are used in evaluations:

  2. Punctuality – The teacher candidate reports to the host school at the assigned time and stayed for the assigned time.  The teacher candidate completed any assigned tasks within the prescribed time and recognized how punctuality affects others.
  3. Appropriate Appearance – The teacher candidate’s appearance in dress, personal hygiene and physical behavior is appropriate for the classroom and complied with the host school’s policies regarding dress and behavior.
  4. Self-confidence – The teacher candidate exhibits appropriate confidence and poise in working with teaching professionals and students.

  7. Professional oral communications - The teacher candidate demonstrates the use of standard English in oral communications with teaching professionals, parents and students.

  9. Mature reasoning or judgment – The teacher candidate demonstrates an understanding of the role and boundaries of a teaching professional.  He or she remained objective in dealing with emotional issues, observed all ethical and legal boundaries and could recognize the complexity of situations.
