Grievance Procedures for Discrimination Complaints
From the Missouri Western State University Policy Guide:
Any student at Missouri Western State University who has a complaint of
discrimination should initially try to resolve the problem through informal discussion. If
this does not resolve the issue, the person may file a written complaint to the Title IX Compliance & Affirmative Action Officer, Sally Sanders (Popplewell Hall 117). The complaint will be investigated and documented, and appropriate
recommendation for resolution of the problem will be made in writing to the complaint.
Normally, response will be made within 30-day period from receipt of the complaint. If
the complainant is not satisfied with the response, he/she may submit the complaint to the
Equal Opportunity Committee within 10 days after receiving the response. The
Committee will review the information and make recommendations for resolution.
Normally, a response will be provided by the Chairperson of the committee in writing
within 30 days of filing with the committee. The person initially receiving the complaint
will not participate at the committee level.
A final appeal may be pursued by submitting the complaint to the President of Missouri
Western State University within 10 days of receipt of the Committee's response. The
President will provide an opportunity for the complainant to present the grievance and
will normally respond to the complaint within 14 days of receipt of the complaint.
If the University fails to provide a satisfactory response, the student can request advocacy from:
