Disability Services works with each student on an individual basis to determine and coordinate reasonable accommodations.

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act require public colleges and universities to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. Reasonable accommodations do not include fundamental alterations to course requirements. Accommodations cannot be made that would effectively place an undue administrative or financial burden on the college or university.

Typical and reasonable accommodations for students with Learning Disabilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Access to assistance with capturing course content
  • Access to textbooks made available in alternative/accessible formats
  • Access to adaptive computer programs such a Read & Write
  • Access to a distraction-reduced testing environment
  • Access to additional time for the completion of quizzes and exams

 

Reasonable accommodations for students with Hearing Impairments may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Peer Note Takers

  • Assistive Listening Devices

  • Sign Language Interpreters

  • Transcription Services
  • Early Enrollment

 

Reasonable accommodations for students with Health Impairments may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Peer Note Takers

  • Flexible Attendance Requirements

  • Flexible Make-up Policies for Missed Assignments and Exams.
  • Accessible Parking
  • Resting Benches

Reasonable accommodations for students with Physical Impairments may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Peer Note Takers
  • Scribes for Quizzes and Exams

  • Accessible Parking

  • Accessible Classrooms

  • Accessible Labs and Lab Equipment
  • Accessible Desks and Computers in the Testing Center

  • Extended Time to Complete Quizzes and Exams

  • Computer with Speech-to-text software

  • Textbooks in Alternative/Accessible Format

 

Reasonable accommodations for students with Visual Impairments may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Textbooks in Alternative/Accessible Format
  • Lecture Notes, Handouts and Exams can be Enlarged or Made Accessible via Computer
  • Permission to be Accompanied by a Trained Service Animal
