Welcome to the 4th Annual Global Women's Leadership Summit Site! April 9-11, 2010 will mark the beginning of a revolution in women and men in our community. Local students (MWSU and high school), faculty, staff, adminstrators and community members will convene to discuss and explore issues that women face. Some of these issues, for many women, have a strong link to their self-esteem and self-worth. It is our hope that this summit will provide women and men an opportunity to learn, share, grow and plan to make intentional decisions about the things that have a direct impact on self-worth.
We have provided an array of workshops and opportunities for roundtable discussions regarding spirituality, definitions of manhood, relationships, dating, balance, social responsibility and mentoring. It is with honor that we host Alexis Jones (former teen model, Survivor cast member and "I'm That Girl" website founder) as a featured speaker on April 10th. We will also feature LaVell Rucker (local community leader, Social Worker and Missouri Western State University Alum) during our opening Banquet on April 9th, at 6:00p.m. This year we also have the distinct pleasure of hosting Missouri Western State University Alum Stan Pearson. Mr. Pearson will lead an indepth, interactive workshop, for men only, entitled "Definitions of Manhood. 2010 marks the first year we have provided an opportunity for men to dialogue amongst themselves about issues facing women and role they may or may not play. As a special track this year we are offering workshops specifically for high school seniors. We hope to provide some guidance, tips and a simple "place to vent" for young girls feeling the pressures of being...girls. How do we, as young women, be in relationships but not lose ourselves? What about body image and the media? Am I the only one struggling with my self-esteem? These will be open forums for our young women and we believe they will be enriched for the experience! Lastly, we want this summit to provide opportunities for attendees to network and make life-long connections. Since the beginning of this summit in 2007 we have remained committed to the importance of defining and practicing sisterhood. It is our hope that you join us!
