Material Covered by Division

Division 1 –First Year Chemistry is intended for students that are in their first year of high school chemistry, non-dual credit with any college or university. Material covered includes:

-          Properties and descriptions of matter.

-          Measurements

-          Atoms and elements

-          Atomic and molecular structure

-          Stoichiometry

-          Solutions

-          Chemical reactions

-          Thermochemistry

-          Electronic configurations and periodicity

-          Bonding and molecular structure including theories of bonding

-          Basic organic chemistry

-          Phases of matter and their behavior including intermolecular forces

o       Gases

o       Solids

o       Liquids

Division 2- Second Year Chemistry is intended for students that are in their second year of high school chemistry, non-dual credit with any college or university.  In addition to the material covered in the Division I, the following topic areas are also included:

Division 3- is for any students in Physics.

Division 4- Dual Credit Chemistry is intended for students currently enrolled in any dual-credit course in chemistry (from any college), regardless of whether it is their first or second high school course.  Material covers the same topics as those identified in Division I, though at a depth of knowledge found in a college level first semester General Chemistry course.
