What can I do with my degree?
The department has several degrees and emphasis areas that cover a broad spectrum of specific career opportunities. Many of our graduates find success in the life science industry, in state and federal wildlife agencies or in teaching science. With our associate of science degree, graduates can attain professional licensure as a physical therapist assistant.

The department also provides an excellent foundation for entry into graduate and advanced professional schools. Many students pursue their bachelor’s degree in preparation for medical school, dental school, veterinary school, and graduate school.

Is there a demand for biologists?
Expectations are high for new discoveries and new industries in the life science field.  Just as the 20th century was the “Century of Chemistry and Physics,” the 21st is predicted to be “The Century of Biology.” Creative people with a strong foundation in the life sciences will be needed in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, medicine, environmental science and conservation.

What is the job placement rate for your graduates?
Our job placement rate for science teachers is 100%. Acceptance into medical and dental school averages between 85 and 90%. The placement rate for conservation and wildlife related jobs is at least 90%, with similar rankings for other graduates entering the job market.

How does your program prepare graduates for a career in biology?
Within the department, there is a great deal of positive interaction among students and faculty that relates directly to professional development in the life sciences and related fields. The department also provides a variety of internships and travel abroad opportunities. A high percentage of our students do individual research projects and make presentations of their findings at professional meetings. Faculty members have professional ties with industry and agencies that provide numerous opportunities for students.
