Congratulations to Fran Texeira who is the winner of the 2013 Trails West! Poster competition. This regional contest is sponsored by the Allied Arts Council of St. Joseph and poster submissions are open to the public.  Fran was awarded $500.00 and will have her promotional poster printed and distributed throughout the Midwest.

The winners of the 2013 President’s Holiday Contest. The competition was open to any MWSU student.  We were pleased that MWSU graphic design majors produced all three selections.

• Jeremy Todd – 1^st Place – $100 and his card will be used for Dr. Vartabedian’s holiday mailing.
•  Ruth Northrup – Honorable Mention – $25.00
•  Michaela Haag – Honorable Mention – $25.00

Patrick Larsen and Paula Vaughn both had ceramic pieces selected to be exhibited in the HardWare: National Ceramics Exhibit.  Their works will be on display May 24 – June 22, 2013 at the Hill Country Arts Foundation 120 Point Theatre Road, S., Ingram, TX.

FYI–once again, our design people from the Art department came through with numerous awards from this weekend’s MCMA convention. Hats off to Eboni, Chad and Andrew!

The Master of Applied Arts in the Digital Media (ADM) program would like to invite you to our graduate candidate thesis and applied project presentations. This semester Brad Beckwith, Shanming Li and James Lower will be presenting their digital media applied research projects. They will each present a 20-minute overview on their projects followed by questions from their committee. The review will take place Tuesday, April 30 starting at 9:00 a.m. in Potter Hall room 200. Please come and join us.

 The first of two exhibits for graduating seniors from the art department at Missouri Western State University features animation, graphic design and studio art work by Tabitha Berry, Linda Church, Jakob Ehlert, Sydney Everall, Sarah Gordon, Shelby Hughes, Robbie Johnson, Dalton Liu, Hadley Munger, Kate Pantle, Matthew Robertson, Joe Snapp, Kelli Stratton, Jeremy Todd, Sawyer Vertin, and Amber Wilcox.  The exhibit’s curator is Kansas City art writer Blair Schulman.

The exhibit will run from April 3-11, 2012 in the Potter Gallery, located inside Potter Hall on the Missouri Western State University campus.  The exhibit is free and open to the public, with gallery hours from 8:30am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.

An opening reception is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3rd, from 4-7pm.

Shelby Hughes, senior graphic design student from Rosendale, Mo., and Emily Stojevich-Swenson, senior graphic design student from St. Joseph, recently had their work accepted into the Ninth Annual National Student Show and Conference in Dallas from April 11-13. This was a highly selective competition with over 1,200 entries from colleges and universities from across the nation. The conference, sponsored by the Dallas Society of Visual Communications, is the only national creative competition and design conference just for students.

Hughes’ work, a series of five Trails West! posters, was one of only nine posters accepted for the national show. Stojevich-Swenson’s packaging project for Kettles and Cups Tea Company was one of only eleven selected from the packaging category.

The conference features nationally known keynote speakers, breakout design sessions, workshops, panel discussions and studio tours. The students will have the chance to have their portfolios reviewed by some of the industry’s leading design and advertising professionals.
