Undergraduate Research at Missouri Western

Undergraduate Research is a key component of Missouri Western's designation as Missouri's official applied learning institution. In fact, recent NSSE surveys of students have confirmed that we are among the top universities in the nation when it comes to exposing students to research experiences directly with faculty. Missouri Western is active in CUR and holds an enhanced institutional membership to that organization.

Opportunities for College Students

Nearly every department offers independent research courses. There are also competitive summer opportunities through PORTAL.

Opportunities for High School Students

High school students 17 or older have the opportunity to participate in a PORTAL project and work with a team.

Opportunities for Faculty

Faculty are encouraged to participate in undergraduate research and receive load credit during the year for such activities. In addition, such activities potentially count as teaching, service, and professional development depending on the scope of the work. During the summer stipends are available through PORTAL.

Opportunities for Community College Students

We are currently working on developing opportunities for students at MCC and North Central to have funded research experiences at Missouri Western in the summer.

Multi-disciplinary Research Day

Since 1996 Missouri Western has offered the Multidisciplinary Research Day event where students from all disciplines are invited to present the results of their research to the University community. Please see this page for more information.
