Student Academic Mentors (SAMs) |
The Student Academic Mentor (SAM) program
works with groups of students to help prepare
them for what lies ahead at Missouri Western. They
counsel, advise, and mentor students on their
course selections, degree options, four-year
plans, campus resources, etc. As peers and
exemplary students, they serve as role models
for the students they work with, modeling good
student behavior that has served them well in
their academic pursuits. |

Eric Toliver is a second year sophomore and Theatre-Cinema student at Missouri Western. He is
a very active and talented young man of faith, which motivates him daily.
He graduated from Paseo Academy of Fine & Performing Arts in May 2011. In addition to Theatre-Cinema, Eric has recently declared a minor in Creative Writing. At MWSU, he is a member of New Vine Campus Ministry and a first year member of Black Student Union. He plans to further his education more by earning a Master’s in Theology. Overall, Eric plans to have a vibrant career in Theatre & Cinema as an entrepreneur, writer, director/producer, and actor. |

My name is Brock Couch and I am a sophomore at Missouri Western. I am majoring in Biology with a
concentration in Zoology and Wildlife Conservation. My hometown is a very small
town called Greensburg, Missouri. I graduated from Know County High School. I
am a member of Tri-Beta, the Honors Program, a Registration Leader, and I do
research with many of my Biology professors. I have five siblings, two older
brothers, two younger sisters, and a younger brother. |

Hey, my name is Sammy Cleveland. I am a
second Nursing student. I am from St. Louis, Missouri. I am not only a mentor
but a VIP in the admissions office. This is my third year at MWSU, and I
couldn’t imagine being at any other school. I am involved with intramurals,
Griffon Edge, CCF and I love going to sporting events. I hope to become a
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and work on an Oncology floor at a Children’s
Hospital. I am obsessed with One Direction, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and country
music! I’m a HUGE movie buff! And love anything sparkly and pink! Hope you
learned a bit about me!

Peer Advisors |
Peer Advisors serve in the Student Success & Academic Advising Center front office as paraprofessionals. They assist students with issues related to course selection, major selection, and adjusting to university life in general. Peer Advisors help to acquaint students with Missouri Western policies, procedures, requirements, and registration information. They also participate in registration activities including “Big R”, Walk-In, and late registration. Likewise, Peer Advisors assist in referring students to resources across campus that can help them to enhance their educational experience. |

Hello, I am Jessica Fisher. I am a sophomore and majoring in Elementary
Education with a Special Education concentration. I'm involved in the MWSU
International Reading Association. When I'm not doing homework, I enjoy
spending time with family and friends, baking desserts, and reading.

Hi, my name is Meghan Bauer and I am sophomore planning to study physical therapy assistance and one day being
certified in American Sign Language. I am from Weston, Missouri where I graduated
from high school at West Platte. I plan to work with disabled children in the
future. In my free time I enjoy planning my wedding, playing guitar, and
spending time with friends and family. |

Whitney Stubbs is a junior, first-semester nursing student here at MWSU. She grew up in Platte City, MO and graduated from Platte County High School in 2010. When Whitney has free time, she likes to be with her friends, play sports, and go on adventures. She loves God, nature, sports, and the color blue. After graduating, Whitney plans on working as a pediatric nurse and eventually continuing her education to be a Nurse Practitioner. |

Peer Advisor
Adrienne Collins is a junior at Missouri Western State University studying voice
under Dr. Susan Carter. She has received national recognition in vocal
competitions including second place in the 2012 National Opera Association's
Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition, a first round finalist and advancement to
the second round of the 2012 Classical Singer Competition in Chicago, and first
place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing. While at Missouri
Western, she has been heavily involved with the new opera program, and has
performed roles such as "Lucy" in The Telephone, "Christine" in Phantom, "Gretel" in Hansel and Gretel, and this April, she
will be portraying the role of "Johanna" in Sweeney Todd. She will be
giving her junior recital this semester, and is currently in the audition
process for involvement in a young artist program this summer.

Lead Student Mentor |
The Lead Student Mentor assists with training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluation SAMs and Peer Advisors. They are in charge of weekly meetings and address issues that surface during mentoring and with the Peer Advisors. The Lead Student Mentor also assists with the Student Success Workshop Series in any way needed. This position is in charge of assigning mentoring groups, room assignments, and facilitating all necessary forms. They also prepare paperwork for the weekly mentoring curriculum and assist the Academic Advisors and Director with day-to-day operations of the Student Success Center. |

Hi, my name is Tasha Ewing and I am a senior at
Missouri Western. My major is in psychology and my minor is in law. I have two
dogs a Boxer and a Miniature Schnauzer. They both consume a lot of our lives. I
will be getting married in May of 2013! I plan to graduate in the Fall of 2013
and attend graduate school the following fall to receive my PH.D. After graduate
school, I hope to work in a hospital setting helping people with mental
disorders.
