Disability Services – The Disability Services
Office is located in Eder Hall 203N. Students with
disabilities are provided accommodations and services as
mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990).
These services are tailored to their particular
disability as stated in their documentation. Services
may include testing in a quiet room with extended time,
peer notetakers, accessible seating in the classroom,
interpreters for the hearing impaired and use of
adaptive equipment (including a reading machine,
voice-activated computers, etc.). Students who are
registered with the Disability Service Office office
provide each of their professors with a confidential
form at the beginning of each semester that details what
services they are provided based on their disability.
Student documentation must be from within the past three
years. Additional information may be found at:
www.missouriwestern.edu/ds or phone 816-271-4330.
International Students – The International
Student Coordinator is located in Blum 210. All
international students must meet with the advisor upon
arrival at Missouri Western. Students will be invited
to an orientation session and provided with a variety of
information on the St. Joseph and Kansas City
communities. The international advisor can provide
answers to a variety of questions including maintaining
status, eligibility for employment on and off campus,
extension of stay, changing status and concerns
regarding post-completion practical training. For more
information, call: 816-271-5998 or refer to
www.missouriwestern.edu/international.
Non-Traditional Student Center – The
Non-Traditional Student Center provides support and
assistance for the non-traditional students at Missouri
Western and is located in Eder Hall 200. Non-trad
students currently comprise 25% of the student
population. “Considering College: A Seminar for
Adults,” designed especially for adults thinking about
enrolling in college for the first time or returning to
college after several years absence, is scheduled
several times each semester. “Coffee & Conversation" is
offered during the last week of each month. These
informal sessions give non-trad students a chance to
meet and visit with each other. The Non-Trad Student
Center also sponsors a campus club, the Non-Traditional
Student Association, and a national honor society,
Omicron Psi, for adult students. For more information,
see the website at
www.missouriwestern.edu/nontrad or contact the
Non-Traditional Student Center at 816-271-4280.
