Missouri Western State University is all about students. In fact, around 83% of Western's budget directly supports students and student instruction, among the highest percentage in the state. Center for Academic Support - visit the website!

The Center for Academic Support provides one-on-one and small group tutoring for most courses on campus. Located on the northeast corner of the library building, the Center consists of group study spaces and a large open area for students to receive tutoring or work independently.

The CAS offers free tutoring in math, writing, specific courses, reading and study skills.  In addition to these services, students have access to online assistance, Supplemental Instruction (SI), and workshops sponsored by the Center.  Flashcards and handouts are also available.

 

Center for Multicultural Education - visit the website!

The mission of the Center for Multicultural Education is to provide opportunities for personal and professional growth in the areas of multicultural exploration, sensitivity, empathy and competency for students, faculty and staff of Missouri Western State University.  We will work diligently to provide leadership and support in the area of diversity and building cross-cultural connections within the campus and St. Joseph community through workshops, programs, training and dialogue.

 

Counseling Center - visit the website!

The Counseling Center is designed to help students with problems, both academic and personal, that might interfere with their educational pursuits.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • improving motivation to study

  • managing time better

  • choosing future careers

  • managing everyday stress

  • improving concentration

  • increasing self-confidence

  • developing a mature sexuality

  • overcoming anxiety about test taking or public performing

  • improving relationships with family and friends

  • developing independence and decision-making ability

  • overcoming feelings of apathy and mild depression

  • finding help for alcohol/drug abuse, eating disorders, or other problems

Disability Services - visit the website!

The Disability Services Office provides comprehensive services and programs for students with visual, hearing, mobility and chronic impairments, as well as learning disabilities. They ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to all programs and activities offered at Missouri Western as mandated by ADA Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990. The goal of the office is to eliminate both attitudinal and architectural barriers that exist on campus. They also act as advocates for students with disabilities, but also encourage students to develop independence and responsibility as they take part in University life.

The mission of the Esry Student Health Center is to promote and maintain optimal physical and emotional health and well-being of Missouri Western students. With an emphasis on health education and promotion of wellness and healthy lifestyles, students are encouraged to be concerned about and responsible for their own health, so as to enhance their overall educational experience. Services include:

Non Traditional Student Services - visit the website!

The Non-Traditional Student Center is designed to assist non-traditional students with their unique educational, personal and professional needs. They are available year round to help ease those “back-to-school jitters.” They also furnish information about how and where to get started in you academic pursuits, such as advising you on how big a course load you can handle. Information about campus offerings and activities in general are available also.

 

You are a non-traditional student if you are:

  • 25 years old or older

  • going to college for the first time or are coming back after an absence

  • do not conform to the definition of a traditional student

Recreation Services - visit the website!

Recreation Services comprises all of the facilities and activities that allow students to stay active and physically fit while working on their academics. Western offers a full service fitness center that is accessible free-of-charge. They also coordinate the racquetball courts, basketball courts, swimming pool, and other campus facilities for intramurals.
