Honors Program

 

Western’s Honors program offer high-achieving students the opportunity to enhance their college experience through interesting guest speakers, conferences across the country, a semester of study abroad, scholarship opportunities, in-depth research and study of a variety of topics, museum visits and close friendships. Admission to the Honors Program

New Freshmen - Students who wish to be considered for admission to the Honors Program must possess a minimum ACT score of 26 and a minimum cumulative, high school GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.  Students must also be accepted for admission to the university and complete the application for admission to the Honors Program. Which is accessible through your ONE STOP Account once you have been accepted for admission.

 

Transfer and Current Students - Students who have already completed at least 15 but not more that 32 hours of course work with a GPA of 3.5 or above at Western or at any accredited college or university are also invited to apply for admission into General Studies Honors.  Students who have completed at least 32 hours of course work with a GPA of 3.5 or above at Western or at any accredited college or university are invited to apply for admission to Major Honors.

 

General Studies Honors Requirements

To complete General Studies Honors, students must complete the following:

  • 6 General Studies Honors Courses for a total of at least 18 credit hours.  These courses are special sections of typical general studies courses that are required for baccalaureate programs at Western.

  • 6 credit hours of interdisciplinary colloquia.  Colloquia are interactive classes with special topics taught by experienced faculty.  These courses are only offered to students that participate in the Honors Program and allow special undergraduate research opportunities.

Continued Participation in the Honors Program

To continue participation in the Honors Program, students must receive a grade of A or B in all honors courses.  Additionally, students must achieve the following cumulative GPA at the end of each year:

  • Freshman - 3.2 GPA

  • Sophomore - 3.5 GPA

  • Junior - 3.5 GPA

  • Senior - 3.5 GPA
