Western to Host Chiefs for Off-Season Workout Western will be the site of an off-season workout for the Kansas City Chiefs on June 12. “There is tremendous fan support of the Chiefs in St. Joseph and it is good of the Chiefs to acknowledge that support by bringing a workout session here,” said Dr. James Scanlon, Western’s president. “Western is pleased to partner with the Chiefs in making this happen in our community.” Carl Peterson, Chiefs president, announced today that Spratt Memorial Stadium on the Western campus will be the site of the final on-field workout session of the off-season for select team members. In making the announcement, Peterson mentioned the team’s loyal fan base in the region. “We felt it appropriate to make the trip to St. Joseph as the first in a series of off-season practices we hope to conduct in areas outside of the Kansas City metro as a way to say ‘thank you’ to our fans,” Peterson said. The ninety-minute workout will involve players in jerseys and shorts (no pads) focusing primarily on the passing game. Following the workout, Head Coach Herm Edwards will address the fans. Members of the team will conduct an autograph session. Chiefs’ mascot KC Wolf and the Chiefs cheerleaders will also perform and sign autographs. Dr. Scanlon has appointed Dan Nicoson, vice president for university advancement, to chair a committee to coordinate local planning with the Chiefs. “This visit by the Chiefs allows a rare opportunity for football fans to see this type of on-the-field activity,” Nicoson said. “All of us at Western will do all we can to welcome the Chiefs and their fans.” |
