Mediation for Problem Solvers

SYNOPSIS:
This training module focuses on introducing mediation as a tool for patrol officers for solving repeating problems. This training will provide attendees will the basic framework of the mediation process and will help attendees in recognizing opportunities to utilize mediation for resolving disputes encountered during calls for service.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand the difference between adversarial and collaborative solutions in handling calls for service
  • Develop an ability to differentiate between conflict styles of individuals
  • Learn to distinguish the "type" of conflict the parties are having
  • Know the different stages of the Mediation Process
  • Understand the benefits of Mediation to a police department and how it supports community policing
