Terrorism Overview

SYNOPSIS:
This course is designed to give law enforcement officers a tool to engage in constructive dialogue about terrorism with the citizens of the community they serve.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Provide background on the broader national purpose and explanation of the impetus for this training program
  • Discuss the nexus between COP and Homeland Security
  • Provide an overview of the foundations of COP
  • Discuss the local impact of terrorism
  • Define vigilance
  • Provide an overview of the Homeland Security System
  • Develop a working definition of COP
  • Discuss the goals and purposes of COP
  • Apply COP to Homeland Security
  • Articulate common definitions of terrorism
  • Understand the differences between historical and modern terrorism
  • Describe different types and forms of terrorism
  • Differentiate terrorists from traditional criminals
  • Recognize typical terrorist methods of operation and criminal violations
  • Understand how terrorists are a community threat
