Ethical Considerations and Racial Profiling

Synopsis:
This is an interactive workshop that explores ethical and demographic issues that have compelled law enforcement agencies to address organizational and cultural practices that encompass the parameters of ethical decision-making and racial profiling in general. Emphasis will be placed on the recognition of ethical issues personal and professional judgment, police duty to the public’s trust and to the profession of law enforcement as a whole.

Objectives:

  • Discuss ethics in policing and the police subculture
  • Describe and understand Public trust and the Social Contract
  • Describe reasons and justifications for traffic stops
  • Describe and understand pretextual stops
  • Describe the fourth and fourteenth Amendments relevant to traffic stops and racial profiling

Length of Presentation:
4 or 8 hours
