“Homeland Security Begins on Your Block”
Domestic Terrorism/Extremist Groups

SYNOPSIS:
This course is designed to give law enforcement officers a tool to engage in constructive dialogue about terrorism with the citizens of the community they serve.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Provide background on the broader national purpose and explanation of the impetus for this training program
  • Discuss the nexus between COP and Homeland Security
  • Provide an overview of the foundations of COP
  • Discuss the local impact of terrorism
  • Define vigilance
  • Provide an overview of the Homeland Security System
  • Develop a working definition of COP
  • Discuss the goals and purposes of COP
  • Apply COP to Homeland Security
  • Understand and describe different types of domestic terrorist/extremist groups, including left-wing, right-wing, and special interest/single-issue groups
  • Describe the ideologies of the activities engaged in, and the tactics used by different types of domestic terrorist/extremist groups
