Community Policing Response
To Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault / Rave Club Drugs

SYNOPSIS:
Sexual assault or rape can be defined as one person forcing another person to have sex, or perform sexual acts, through coercion, manipulation, threats, physical restraint or physical violence. It also includes touching or grabbing intimate body parts for sexual gratification. Rape is not just a crime of sex. Rather, it is a crime of power and control where sexual activity or contact is used to dominate and hurt the victim.

Many people have associated the concept of rape with a stranger who randomly assaults a woman. While this is true for a small percentage of cases, most women are raped by someone they know and often trust. For adolescents and young adults, rape often occurs on a date.

The most conservative report shows that rape occurs:

  • More than once per minute
  • 78 times per hour
  • 1871 times per day
  • Someone in America is the victim of sexual assault
  • A growing number of rapes are drug facilitated

This training is focused upon the trend within college campuses and communities of the use of drugs such as GHB, Rohypnol, and Ecstacy in order to facilitate a sexual assault.
