Conducting Complete Traffic Stops

SYNOPSIS:
This interactive workshop explores ethical issues, questions, and problems relevant to Racial Profiling as they relate to traffic stops. Emphasis will be placed on the recognition of ethical issues, personal and professional decision-making skills. The workshop will discuss the consequences of ethical and unethical behavior at they relate to traffic stops and racial profiling. The training will stress the importance of understanding the relationship between traffic enforcement and the role in reducing crime and traffic crashes.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To discuss the relationship between traffic and criminal enforcement
  • To learn specific techniques to detect criminal activity after the stop
  • To show how to safely view every traffic stop in totality before reducing crashes and reducing incidence of crime
  • To help heighten officer awareness of potential civil rights implications of actions at the traffic stops
  • Discuss HB 1053 Racial Profiling Form and issues surrounding racial profiling
