ADVISORY GROUP BYLAWS

Statement of Organization
and
Purpose for the Advisory Group

PURPOSE
To develop policies and ideas for training and technical assistance offered by RCPI. Input from the Advisory Group will be used by the staff in developing directions for the RCPI to pursue.

MEMBERSHIP
The number of members of the Advisory Group will be determined by the Director, with the approval of the Governing Board. The Director and the Chair of the Governing Board will serve as members of the Advisory Group. The Advisory Group will be representatives of Partner organizations. Each organization will have one representative. Selection of the membership will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. Organization's involvement in issues related to communities and public safety.
  2. Impact of the organization on state-wide issues related to subject-matter of the group.
  3. The interest of the organization in the work of the RCPI.
  4. Diversity of interests and community stakeholder representation.

SELECTION
Membership on the Advisory Group will be nominated by the Director, with notice to the Governing Board.

TERM OF OFFICE
Member organizations will be elected to two year terms. These terms will be staggered, so initially some will be one year. Organizations can be elected to more than one term.

MEETINGS
The Advisory Group will meet at least three times a year, at locations throughout the state. One of those meetings will be with the Governing Board, and be referred to as the Annual Meeting.

MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES
Each committee member is expected to:

  1. Attend a minimum of two meetings per year.
  2. Actively participate in the functioning of the Advisory Group.
  3. Be available for individual consultation to the RCPI.
  4. Promote the programs of the RCPI.
  5. Actively promote the activities of the RCPI, and the concept of Community Oriented Policing.

OFFICERS
There will be a Chair of the Advisory Group. This person will be elected by the membership of the Advisory Group. This person shall be a voting member of the Governing Board, and will attend Governing Board meetings. A Co-Chair will also be elected to serve and attend meetings in the absence of the Chair.
