| The Willis H. McCann Scholarship is available to a student entering the first or second semester of the senior year. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, a student must have a 3.0 GPA both cumulative and in the major. The award is made on the basis of financial need, vocational aspirations, and potential to contribute to the profession of psychology. The applications for the McCann Scholarship can be obtained in the Psychology Department office or from the Financial Aid office. Deadline for submission is March 15. The application must be accompanied by a statement of financial need, an official MWSU transcript, and a letter of recommendation from a member of the psychology faculty. Interviews and final selection of the scholarship winner are done by committee.
The Psychology Department also has three "Western Excellence" scholarships. Details can be found on the Financial Aid Web Site Besides the McCann Scholarship, psychology students are eligible for a variety of other scholarships, work-study positions, and student loans. Interested students should see the scholarship listings in the MWSU Catalog, and also contact the Financial Aid Office. All Department scholarships require that the student have a complete FAFSA form on file. Awards The recipient of the Willis H. McCann Outstanding Senior Award is determined by the psychology faculty. There is no application process; all outstanding graduating students are automatically considered for the award. This award is given at the Liberal Arts and Sciences Convocation held annually in the spring just before graduation. The outstanding senior is selected on the basis of grade average, performance in psychology courses, potential to pursue advanced study in psychology and eventually contribute to the profession, and extracurricular activities such as participation in Psychology Club/Psi Chi and undergraduate psychology conferences.
