STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Every year in the United States, newborn babies are abandoned by their mothers and caregivers. A Safe Haven for Newborns is an organization that offers resources to women and newborns in crisis and offers a safe place to drop off your baby as an alternative to abandonment. Safe Haven locations are at hospitals, fire stations, and police departments. So far, 186 newborns have been save thanks to Safe Haven. Safe Haven workers at locations in Saint Joseph and surrounding areas were previously asked to attend an educational meeting at Heartland Regional Medical Center to learn about Safe Haven for Newborns. I would like to do a follow-up study with those who attended to find out if the educational information provided was helpful and to receive feedback on the meeting. With the feedback received, the educational meeting can be improved for future education. STATEMENT OF RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Participants will be staff members of Safe Haven locations such as hospitals, fire stations and police departments who previously participated in the educational meeting. Individuals will receive a questionnaire regarding the educational meeting. Individuals will not place their names on the questionnaires at any time. They will be informed that their participation is optional, and that they do not have to answer any questions that they do not wish to answer and may review the questionnaires before agreeing to participate. Participants will receive the questionnaires and can complete them at their home or workplace and return them to the researcher. After returning the questionnaire with informed consent, participants will receive a written explanation of the research. ANTICIPATED RISKS AND BENEFITS Minimal risk is anticipated for the participants. The questionnaires are anonymous. The participant may benefit from this study by receiving new or additional information or training on the Safe Haven Law through the feedback collected by this study. SUBJECT SELECTION The research is expected to have a maximum of 25 participants all of which participated in the educational meeting on Safe Haven for Newborns. An effort will be made to include participants of different races and ethnicities. The interviews may be done through email, over the phone, mailed in or face to face. CONFIDENTIALITY Confidentiality will be maintained by survey anonymity. All data will be kept in a locked filing cabinet in a locked room and only reviewed by the researcher. At no time will identifying information be placed on the students' questionnaire.
