STATEMENT OF PURPOSE The purpose of this research is to survey case workers at Family Guidance Center to see if the non-verbal cues from their training are actually the ones that they use most often with their consumers. The goals of this study are to bring back data to Family Guidance so that they can tailor their training sessions to the non-verbal cues that their case workers use most in practice. The purpose is to ultimately give case workers at Family Guidance Center the best tools to communicate with their consumers in order to provide the most effective services possible. STATEMENT OF RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Extensive research will be done by me, Jessica Barszczak, to get a variety of non-verbal cues that are used in current social work practice in order to build a survey that looks at as many non-verbal cues as possbile. Some examples of non-verbal cues that I will ask them about will be; crossed arms, finger pointing, eye contact, fidgeting, facial expressions, paralinguistics, proxemics, and gestures. This survey will be an option for case workers at the Family Guidance Center to take so that I collect data directly from them. All data that is collected will be entered into the SPSS system to be analyzed. After it is entered into the system all data will be shredded. Through using SPSS, I will determine the most used non-verbal cues used by case workers at Family Guidance Center and report my findings back to the HR Director, Holly Ronsonke, so that future trainings can be tailored to the non verbal cues most used already in their agency. ANTICIPATED RISKS AND BENEFITS There is minimal risk from. In order to minimalize any risk that can occur, I have made the survey for case workers completely anonymous and optionalso that they know that their identity will be protected throughout every part of my research process. SUBJECT SELECTION The survey will be offered to all case workers at Family Guidance Center so I anticipate to have approximately 100 subjects participate in the survey. CONFIDENTIALITY The survey will be kept completely anonymous and completed surveys will be kept in a lock box until entered into the SPSS program. After they have been entered into the program they will be immediately disposed of. The survey will have no identifying questions that could point back to one single individual. Confidentiality is the most important factor in this research and I will keep all information either locked or password protected throughout the entire process.
