STATEMENT OF PURPOSEThis research is being done to find out the policies of higher institutions of learning involving admissions of people who were convicted of crimes. This information is used to determine the safety of students and faculty on campus. The policies will be compared to the published reports of crime at that institution to see what connections can be made.STATEMENT OF RESEARCH METHODOLOGYTo research this topic, the internet will be used to go to the websites of Colleges, Universities, and vocational schools in the area and finding out the admissions policies of people who have been convicted of crimes. The large Universities I will be interviewing are: University of Missouri Kansas City, University of Kansas, and University of Missouri. I will also be contacting the following smaller Universities: Missouri Western State Universities, North West Missouri State, and Truman State. Three Community colleges will be contacted. They are: Highland, Crowder, and Three Rivers. The Technical institutes I will be interviewing are: IIT Tech, Hillyard Technical School, and Vatterott College. I will also be calling the risk management supervisors or team members to find out the admissions requires of people with a criminal background. The interview will consist mostly of open ended questions but there will be some yes or no questions as well. The questions will be asked to the risk management personnel about the policies of the institution, by a single researcher. The answers will then be recorded. Because the information is regarding policy there is no need for it to be anonymous.ANTICIPATED RISKS AND BENEFITSThe risk is minimal. The only contact that will be made will be a phone interview or possibly an email with an attachment or link to the published admissions policy.SUBJECT SELECTIONThe subjects being interviewed will include one member of the risk management personnel from the following institutions: University of Missouri Kansas City, University of Kansas, University of Missouri, Missouri Western State Universities, North West Missouri State, Truman State, Highland, Crowder, Three Rivers, IIT Tech, Hillyard Technical School, and Vatterott College.CONFIDENTIALITYThe research will be over public policy. The information gathered is published. There is nothing that needs to remain confidential. All information gathered will be kept on a personal computer and stored in an encrypted file that is password protected. No individual names will be used in the data and no sensitive information will be recorded. |
